Title: Icing up
Post by: on August 09, 2005, 08:13:45 am
I started my machine (USS-96) last night and then checked it this morning.  I cools very very good, but I have ice on the lines in the bottom.  It was on the lowest setting and I think that I may need a new thermostat.

Can anyone confirm this and tell me how to change one and what to look for when I buy one?  Would home depot have them?   ???

Jed - any refrigeration supply company should have the t-stats.  Icing might also be caused by a bad door seal that lets air (and moisture) into the cooling area.

The icing is on the lines in the lower compartment on the lines coming out of the compressor.  Sorry I wasn't more clear.  :blushing:

I'm not sure if it is shutting off at all? ???

Hello

Take the old T-stat off & take it to your local AC supply store. They will have what you need. It should an easy change out by disconnecting the two electrical lines on the back of the t-stat.

icing of the line back towards the compressor (I'm assuming the capillary tube)  can also indicate an undercharged system, or possibly a restriction in the tubing due to an ice crystal in the line, kinking/crushing of the 'cap. tube, or some little fleck of crud restricting the capillary tube above the point were it normally would join the suction line at the evaporator... :( , you might wish to talk to Eric over at Global compressors & tell him the symptoms...just a thought.

Sounds like I may have more of a problem than I thought.  I will give Eric a call and go home tonight and check for any kinks in the hose.
