Got a call on my ad today, what is a fair price on a Vendo 39 fair condition, needs lock, painting, rewiring, maybe a cooling system.

The cooling system itself will run around $500-600 if it's all missing or so badly damaged to require replacement. Figure $20 for lock/key assembly, $40 for compressor wiring harness, $250 for paint (assuming you'll have someone paint it). Ballpark figure for cost to restore, $800-900 plus cost of machine. If you plan to resell, figure maybe $1500-$2000 resell on e-bay, probably higher if you sell on your own, up to $4000 if you have access to a coke-memorabilia shop to sell your machine. It's always about location! I have a friend in Florida that owns a coke memorabilia shop and regularly sells machines for $3000-$5000 from his store, many of the same models going for half that on e-bay.
Bottom line, whatever you feel is a worthy price for a machine in that condition. Me? Probably no more than $500 (but I'd aim for around $300)

Thanks Eric. He says he wants 600 for it, it was rescued from the weeds and has been in storage for a couple years.
I' think I've been to you friends shop it's outside Destin right? Cross the bridge and on the left? Parking on the side and back.

Explain to the guy that a new cooling system will run 600.00 and offer him 450.00.

No, but close. He's on the mainland side of the bridge over in FT. Walton Beach on Miracle Strip Parkway. The name of his shop is Buccaneer Gifts. His name is Oscar Ring, great guy!!

Whats in the back room? He told us to go have a look, but it was just way too hot that day.
There were some kids there that were going in and out of the back seemed to be having a good time.

The drum is worth $200, the coin door is about $100-200, depending on if someone needs
the one with the rib, coin mech $100, little bottle door $75-100, crank handle $25-50
fan and aluminum collar $100, $500 you could part it out and be ok.

Just my biased toward 39's opinion, but a decent shaped roundtop under $1000 is a good deal.
The quantity is getting smaller, and the prices are getting bigger for 39's 81's even 56's, so a return on your investment for a well restored machine is almost a given....

I'd have to say the order in desireability is 81, 56, then 39. I've always found that the resonably-sized multi-vend slant shelves will always sell for more than a single vend, 8 oz machine.
The 56 is a great little machine, relatively rare compared to the common 39 of which Vendo produced about 80,000. Then again, the 39 is the coke machine that symbolizes the 50s..since it was so prevalent during that period. Like Kilroy said, you'll probably do ok in the ROI area.

Best thing... Go look at it.... It may have spent its whole life indoors and looks good just a few things and the cooling system may just be as simple as a new cord....
You never know they may really need to unload it.... And as aways....we need pictures.

Sorry I haven't replied, been out doing "Navy stuff." Next time you're down in Ft. Walton Beach, go in the "back room." Oscar has a real nice setup in there. Tell him I sent you. One of the two kids was most likely his grandaughter. If I could redo my kitchen, it would look like his!!
He's a real wiz with resin and coke memorabilia!! He also keeps machines back in that area of the store too. One of mine (my Vendo 144) was back there but has recently sold, so I'm looking forward to some coke-stuff spending money
