Title: Arcade games Post by: loman4ec on July 12, 2005, 08:23:33 pm I have found someone that has 5 old arcade games in there garage. They owned an arcade in the early 80's and this is what they have left. They know nothing about them and they havent been touched in almost 20 years. They are Donkey Kong JR, Qix, Jungle Hunt, Centipede, and Sega Turbo. It is the daughter of the people that own them that is selling them. They need them out and she said they will take almost nothing for them. She plugged them in and they didn't turn on. I was an Arcade tech for some time in Ohio so I know how to work on them. What I am asking is does anyone know anything about old arcade games here? Also would anyone be interested in them.
Title: Arcade games Post by: jasmine64 on July 12, 2005, 08:32:08 pm I may be interested in the centipede.
Title: Arcade games Post by: loman4ec on July 12, 2005, 08:39:10 pm Never mind she emailed me to inform me that they all just sold. Just my luck. Oh well.
Title: Arcade games Post by: dr galaga on July 12, 2005, 09:18:35 pm Too bad Josh, most of those are pretty collectible. The DK Jr. can be converted to Double Donkey Kong - which has both original DK and DK Jr.
I would love to get a DK and Centipede someday, but not until I get a bigger house! Title: Arcade games Post by: on July 12, 2005, 10:27:54 pm Shoot!!!!!! I would have LOVED to have added "Jungle Hunt" to my collection!!!!!!!!
I spent a lot of quarters on that game (actually on the original version which was called "Junge King" until the Tarzan estate sued). I can still hear the swishing sound of the vines. What a bummer that they already sold!!! I hope she got a lot of money for them, because they are all worth a lot! Title: Arcade games Post by: sodaworks on July 13, 2005, 12:30:54 am I recently put a pac man machine in my shop. Gonna have to move it out, spending to much time playing instead of working.
Title: Arcade games Post by: BrianB on July 13, 2005, 07:07:00 am I too wish I had some more room to fit in a few stand-up arcade games...for as many quarters as I plunked into those infernal machines, I think I deserve some free-play action!!

Facing a spur of the moment decision. We've all been there. You could have made some money.....or you could have lost money. It's even worse when the seller says " snooze U lose" Title: Arcade games Post by: glassbottlesrule on July 13, 2005, 08:22:32 pm Josh, with the way MAME is going and the multigames the classics aren't worth as much as they once were. Just in the last year or so most classics ie. Defender, centipede, pacman, DK etc have went down in value a couple hundred bucks. Used to be a nice working well known title was a easy grand. Now AI see friends scrapping to get 600-800 bucks for a clean machine. Would have loved to get my hands on a nice QIX though.
Title: Arcade games Post by: on July 13, 2005, 08:48:35 pm I know people love MAME, but honestly, nostalgia sells and there is NOTHING like the original machine standing in your home.
Think about it, do we all have modern replicas of Coke machines filling our house and garage? No, we want the originals. Title: Arcade games Post by: on July 13, 2005, 08:52:09 pm I guess I'm just getting old.
Title: Arcade games Post by: dr galaga on July 13, 2005, 09:27:51 pm
For us "old-timers," yes. But to the younger "computer-geek" generation, they like it. Just like jukeboxes. I have my juke and have about 5000 45's for it (and have paid some good money for all of them). One of my computer-geek friends (who is a few years younger) is going to make a jukeebox out of an old entertainment console or gutted jukebox. What's he going to put in there? A old networked computer to play MP3's (probably 95% downloaded). That's not a jukebox (at least it is not one that I like). Oh well. If they are not interested in the real thing, the it'll just make the real ones cheaper for all of us! Title: Arcade games Post by: Creighton on July 15, 2005, 01:39:54 am Found an Atari release of Missle Command, Warlords and Combat for the PC at Fry's for 8 bucks. Big MC fan from days gone by and am just having a hoot, family contest under way. Haven't tried the others but cheap fun until have enough room to squeeze in a real arcade or two.

I had a MAME Machine a while ago in an original Cabinet. Found that the choice of over 5,000 games spoilt the fun. You'd just go from one game to another. You can 't knock the authenticity (something like that) of it though. The game looked and felt just like the original. Also have a 3W1 Wallbox (seeburg diner ones from 50's) hooked up to my PC playing MP3 Files. But I always go back to my Wurlitzer JB to play the 45 version. Sounds so much better with the crackle. Dave Title: Arcade games Post by: glassbottlesrule on July 15, 2005, 02:38:22 pm I've both classic cabs and a classic cabinet equipped with MAME. I like MAME because it gives me the ability to play games I would never be able to afford to play again. MAME when it's done right is a great thing but I've seen many that are horrible. When my Cabinet is playing defender you cannot tell it is running on a PC. The only bad thing MAME is done is drive the prices down on cabinets. That's not totally a bad thing as long as your on the right end of the sale.
Title: Arcade games Post by: MCarter on July 15, 2005, 04:47:06 pm I got a Lethal Enforces 1 & 2 In same cabinet FOR SALE 450.00
No Shipping Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 25, 2005, 12:07:47 am Well it's been a busy week for my gameroom.
In addition to the Wurlitzer 3600 jukebox, I also bought from someone a "Golden Tee" arcade machine. See photo below. I have a replacement marquee for the cracked one in the photo. Every guy I know is so excited! Oh and I sold my "Mr. Do" cocktail table machine on eBay for $450.00 Title: Arcade games Post by: davethebirdman on August 25, 2005, 12:54:17 am Hi Markito
did that new baby of yours arrive with its own allowance?? Dave Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 25, 2005, 07:52:10 am LOL!!!
Title: Arcade games Post by: glassbottlesrule on August 26, 2005, 02:55:02 pm Mr. Do is my favorite game. No really it is, I can play it for hours. Kito, what was that Golden Tee originally? It really lloks like a conversion to me.
Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 27, 2005, 11:36:36 pm Yeah, the huge control panel kinda' gives it away, doesn't it?
Not sure, but it works really well as a Golden Tee. I just wish the control panel were smaller. Someday I'll redo it. Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 27, 2005, 11:37:39 pm I also have a jamma board and marquee for "Golden Tee 2K", so I will be upgrading it with that 2 year jump too.
Title: Arcade games Post by: BrianB on August 28, 2005, 12:01:13 am I'm just curious, Mark.....What's next for your gameroom?? Do you have an antique theatre popcorn machine? Oh yeah, did you ever end up getting those stanchions and velvet ropes?
Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 29, 2005, 09:17:29 pm Thanks for thinking of me Brian.
Yes I have the popcorn machine in my dedicated home theater's "lobby", right on top of the glass candy counter. It tastes just like it does in the theater... yum! But regarding the gameroom... I now have 4 arcade games (one of them with 40 games in it) and one of them is the sit-down "cocktail table" style. Then 4 pinball machines, a pool table and a Ping-Pong table top that goes on top of the pool table, a foosball table, a three-head candy machine, a tall pub table with tall stools, my new 1972 jukebox, a Cavalier CS-64 Coke machine and various street signs, movie banners, antique round Coca-Cola sign, Fallout Shelter sign, etc. hanging on the walls. Just yesterday I got an authentic Stop Sign for $8. Tomorrow I am picking up this working payphone to put on the wall in the lobby: Title: Arcade games Post by: dr galaga on August 29, 2005, 09:34:49 pm I think your next stop is NEON!
...and a wallbox! Title: Arcade games Post by: on August 29, 2005, 10:23:13 pm I am actually trying to find a not too expensive neon sign for Summit Beer, which is good beer brewed here in Minnesota. There is a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint not far from me which has one in the window. I'm thinking of going in there and offering them money for it. That way I don't have to worry about competing eBay bidders and breakage during shipping or anything.
Oh and my friend's dad has a cool old wooden phone booth in his basement, complete with the ceiling light that comes on when you shut the door. I'm going to ask him if I could buy it from him. It would look so cool (and appropriate) in the corner of my theater lobby! But I don't know if he will part with it. But I gotta try!!! Title: Arcade games Post by: Creighton on August 29, 2005, 10:35:39 pm Very kewl setup. A wallmount "Pull in case of fire" unit and you will have all the public place items covered. Around here if you take a Neon sign class you get to make a project. It's fun stuff. Just an idea.
Creighton Title: Arcade games Post by: vend_dr on August 30, 2005, 08:47:17 pm Hey Markito,
On Saturday October 15th there will be a Vintage Beer collectibles show at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood from 10 - 3. I don't gaurantee that you will find a Summit neon but there should be plenty of other neons there. This is the largest show beer show in the Midwest with 300+ tables of beer items. Title: Arcade games Post by: jasmine64 on August 31, 2005, 07:12:26 am Kito, How big is your game room? Deminsions.
Perhaps one day I'll be able to add on to my garage and start one. My daughter has been asking for one ever since she was 7. She loves to play pool. Has friends over every weekend and it would be great to have a place for her to entertain. Plus a place for my cvc168 and Cavalier 22. Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 13, 2005, 08:57:08 am Since I now have the Skee-Ball game, and I recently bought a working payphone, I am in the works to acquire a phonebooth to go with the phone in my home theater's "lobby", near the gameroom.
I'll let you know when/if I get it. Title: Arcade games Post by: davethebirdman on September 13, 2005, 10:43:29 am Kito
Pictures speak louder than words. Lets see some. Especially the payphone and the lobby. Dave Title: Arcade games Post by: dr galaga on September 13, 2005, 04:01:42 pm Did you ever find your ropes?
Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 13, 2005, 07:43:28 pm
Dave, I will take updated photos and post them in the next few days. Thanks for your interest. Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 13, 2005, 07:44:48 pm
Nope not yet. Sure I could buy some on eBay, but shipping would be high due to the weighted bases. So I keep hoping I'll find some locally, but so far no luck. Thanks. Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 14, 2005, 08:43:52 am
Dave, Here is the phone booth and phone I won last night. Someday I hope to get a vintage wooden one with the doors that close, etc., but in the meantime this will do just fine. I got it for just $102.50 and that includes the real payphone! Plus it is just 40 minutes from me, so I can pick it up, so no shipping costs! Once I get it home and placed in the "lobby", I will take photos of the whole setup. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....IT&rd=1 Title: Arcade games Post by: BrianB on September 14, 2005, 08:51:59 am all I can say is.....Out of control!
Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 14, 2005, 08:54:58 am Now I have to move the "Baby Pac-Man" arcade game out of the corner of the lobby, into the gameroom to clear a spot for this new thingie.
Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 14, 2005, 08:57:16 am
Yeah, that's how my wife feels everytime she goes down in the basement and sees another toy that just "appeared" there. She's afraid to even go down there anymore. But the one addition that she did actually like is the Skee-Ball machine. Finally one game that she will play. Title: Arcade games Post by: jasmine64 on September 14, 2005, 08:59:21 am Kito,
Make a few calls to local movie theaters and see if maybe thay have the ropes you are looking for in storage. I bet someone has a few stashed away. Title: Arcade games Post by: davethebirdman on September 14, 2005, 02:47:29 pm Kito
you really do have "wonderful stuff". Your poor wife. Hang on a minute haven't we all got poor wifes & girlfriends. Secretly I think they appreciate our toys just as much as we do but don't want to ever admit to it. Good job really otherwise I'd be bankrupt. Dave Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 14, 2005, 03:17:57 pm Thanks Dave, have a safe trip and I wish you were passing through my area. Oh well. Next time.
I just thought of something silly. The red curtain in the photo of my new booth almost looks like Superman's cape got stuck and ripped off of him when he was changing!! LOL!!! Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 14, 2005, 05:30:38 pm At least there is not a blue suit with it.
Title: Arcade games Post by: halehouse on September 14, 2005, 07:04:30 pm Ok, the phone booth is still under the cool factor. BUT...if anyone brings home one of those blood pressure machines like they have in the supermarket near the pharmacy, I'll get a little concerned that you may be going overboard.
Title: Arcade games Post by: BrianB on September 15, 2005, 07:30:24 am I wasn't going to say anything about my last acquisition, but........
Title: Arcade games Post by: BrianB on September 15, 2005, 07:31:33 am I wasn't going to say anything about my latest acquisition, but........
Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 15, 2005, 09:39:57 am
Now THAT is funny!!! [Markito quickly puts the blood pressure machine back in its box to ship it back to the seller] Title: Arcade games Post by: on September 19, 2005, 09:13:12 am
Heh, it'd be kind of funny to hang a superman outfit in there. - it so helps to be easily amused. |
