Title: Happy 4th! Post by: davethebirdman on July 01, 2005, 02:26:39 pm To show that we "Brits" bear no bitterness or resentment
I'd just like to wish all my cousins on the other side of the pond a happy 4th July. You may or may not be aware that we this side are also celebrating this week. Two hundred years since we whooped the arse off our dearest neighbours the French. Now that was a "real battle." The battle of Trafalgar and Lord Nelson. Read an article in the paper today on virtual reality and how, had the battle of Trafalgar gone the other way we'd all be speaking French today. Even in the US. That Napoleon would have walked across the US taking great chunks of it into the French Empire. Those of you in the NE Chapter would have been okay, but that's about all. Funny how you can take a moment in time alter it just everso slightly and "hey presto" the World is a completely different place. Not sure what this has to do with Soda, except that had it gone the way of the French who knows if Mr Pemberton in Atlanta would have made his discovery or even worse, he could have been forced to but a few cloves of Garlic into the reciepe. (That's French ain't it??) Dave PS... Enjoy your holidays ladies & Gents me the wife & Kids will have a mini celebration of our own with a few bottles of coke and a hamburger or two. Title: Happy 4th! Post by: on July 01, 2005, 02:30:07 pm Thanks Josh and Jas.

Title: Happy 4th! Post by: MoonDawg on July 01, 2005, 03:00:52 pm Leaving Sunday for Portland Oregon. Coca Cola Collector's club 31'st national convention. The week starts with fireworks just across the river, visible from the hotel party hall.
Then a week of wheeling and dealing, displays, auctions and swap meet. Soda related items ONLY. It's awesome. Anyone else here planning to attend ?? Title: Happy 4th! Post by: Creighton on July 01, 2005, 03:37:36 pm Oops.

Title: Happy 4th! Post by: joesquid on July 01, 2005, 09:36:39 pm ....And remember our brothers and sisters overseas that are the reason we still celebrate this holiday.
Dave, strangely enough, I'm a big fan of Lord Nelson, truly one of the best sea tacticians ever!! I always love reading about battles where the underdog wins, not because of better technology but because of superior training, sheer tenacity, and never-say-die attitude. Look at the Quasi-war between the U.S and France. Although it was an undeclared war fought entirely between navies, our 9 ship Navy (one frigate, eight cutters) whipped the snot out of the much larger French Navy. Okay, enough history lessons for tonight. Right now (well, as soon as I'm done typing ) I'm lifting a pint in salute to our English brothers and Lord Nelson as well as our U.S. heroes, past and present who keep us free. Thank God for people like them who are willing to step into the breach. God Blessings on all and hopes for a safe and fun holiday! I'll be prearing our Navy's newest Destroyer to be launched soon, what better way to celebrate our freedom? Title: Happy 4th! Post by: BryanH on July 01, 2005, 11:13:52 pm
Eric, I wish you wrote the history books I studied in school ... or at least did the colour (Dave that's for you - good old Queen's english) commentary. Title: Happy 4th! Post by: joesquid on July 05, 2005, 07:12:50 am "Whipped the snot out of" something or someone - Phraseology used widely in Texas and the Deep South to depict a distinctly one-sided battle between individuals or organized fighting forces usually ending in the utter defeat of the vanquished. It is a more polite and acceptable phrase normally used in place of the phrase "Kicked the sh** out of" something or someone when there is concern over the acceptance of the second phrase due to the makeup of the intended audience.
