Title: Wax
Post by: on June 27, 2005, 12:17:12 pm
Hey yall, recently found this site, looks like yall have some good folks and info here.

I just bought a 1952 Vendo 6 Case cooler that is in pretty good shape, but I would like to clean it up a little.  It seems I read somewhere that you can "wax" the machines.  Is it safe to use car wax like turtle wax?  Also do I need to keep the wax away from decal areas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Howdy 6case and welcome!
I'm not a paint and finish expert but I use turtle wax on the original paint on my machines.  I don't use anything like a powered buffer though.  I'd be to worried about accidentally buffing through a layer of paint or snagging and breaking something.  As for the decals, I go around them gently by hand.
I'm sure the rest of the guys will chime in with more on the subject but that's my penny's worth.
We'd all love to see a photo of your new 6 case if you can post one.
A J

6case,
Welcome to the board. Looks like AJ has this covered. Let us know if there is anything else.

Welcome 6case. Great to have you here. Tell us more about your 6-case. Is it missing any parts? How much did you pay (if you don't mind me asking)? Where'd you get it? What kind of condition is it in?

And at the risk of sounding repetitive, we love photos here.

I have a V-110 which is almost the same as the 6-case except the 110 has a coin mech/vending mech.

Stick around, this is the nicest and most helpful bunch of people you will ever meet online.

Wow, two "y'all"s in one sentence. Impressive. :)

Hopefully that web link will work.  That was the sellers photo.  The machine actually looks better in person.

It's in pretty good shape, however, there are some dents and dings mostly on the back. It was on ebay and located outside of Savannah, GA.  I also had to track down some additional shelves so altoghether I'm out about $600.  I've always wanted one, liked the looks of this one and grabbed it.  Maybe yall can tell me if I've been had.

One yall one sentence Ill try to do more for our Midwest friends next time. :D

Looks very nice. I'd say with all the shelves, $600 was just fine.
Great job. After you wax it, it will look fantastic!
Glad you're here.

I agree, a good buy for sure if the refrigeration is good.  Congrats!

Tested the wax out on a small area and it looks like it should work just fine.  Really brought out a nice shine on the test area.  However, after looking the machine over some more I need to do a pretty thorough cleaning especially near the bottom and around the side vents.  Would car wash soap be ok?  Would a chemical like simple green be too harsh?

If you use simple green, please rinse completely. A liitle does go along way.

A dish brush (found at Lowe's or Walmart) will help get into the vent fins.

Sticky, greasy film, any dish soap will work. Again a little goes a long way.

I found with my machine (vendo 63) removing the cooling unit helped
get into the nooks and crannies, and you wont get that part wet when you rinse with the hose.
Plus the added benifit of being able to check out the wiring.

Anyone else need to add to this. Please do....

You also have to promise not to throw those wooden crates on top of YOUR machine.  I'm suprised you weren't reprimanded earlier in this post.   :D
