Title: Clear coat?
Post by: on May 29, 2005, 01:11:56 pm
I am using Dupont Centari (sp) paint on my WH Master.  The first coat looks a little rough.  Should I put a clear coat on after the 2nd coat?

I've never done this myself but my understanding of the process is several (more than 2) base coats each separated by sanding and cutting until you have a flat consistent surface.  Then you move to several clear coats.

No Centari is a single stage paint. What you want to do is apply a few coats and then wet sand and buff it out. You are using hardner correct? It will look like a mirror.

I haven't used a hardner, sure hope it is ok without one.  I was planning to hand paint the embossed letters white, then wet sand and apply several clear coats.  Is this not correct?  This is my first project and plan to use the cooler on my patio. It is an ice type cooler, no electrical.
