Title: Rusted through
Post by: on May 17, 2005, 09:51:01 pm
Sorry for the stupid questions, but I know next to nothing about these machines.

Ok, I have pulled the shelving, the vending unit, coin door, cooling unit, and everything else that I can.  I pulled the inside of the cabinet today and the insulation really needs to be replaced, but my problem is that the galvanized steel at the bottom has rusted through in one spot.  What are my options with this?  can I cut it out and weld in a patch or do I need to buy a new liner and if so through who?    :darn:

Thank you for all the help.

Cheers  :drinkers:

Jed - you can cut out and weld as you've stated.  You might be able patch (depending on where and how big the hole is).  Another approach that's been used has been to have a new bottom pan made to fit on top of existing shell.  Seal it around the edges (same way that the orginal is sealed) and paint.  Search the forums over this year and I think you should find a thread with details and pictures... Just can't remember who did it or I'd find you the link...

Spidey,
Don't fret being a newbie here. We all were, and not too long ago. I have asked many a "stupid" question here and have only been answered with amazing patience, respect and very helpful answers.

Keep the questions coming, that's how we all learn. Heck I'm still asking questions here on a daily basis and I've posted over 870 times in the past 6 months. :p

Spidey,
I had a similar problem and opted to replace the whole metal sheet.  My thought was I didn't want a "patch" to come back and haunt me later so I just cut it out and had a friend mig-weld a new one in.  Cutting out the old one was the hardest part of the job.  After taking measurements, got a machine shop to cut a new sheet for $20 then welded it in.  No biggie.

Thank you for the quick responses.  I think that I will end up cutting out this piece and welding in a  new one.  I have a friend that use to weld and hopefully still does. :hopefull:

Thanks again for the tips. :D
