Title: Westinghouse master
Post by: racerx45 on May 07, 2005, 11:21:53 pm
So I have had this Westinghouse Master wet cooler for a number of years now and have never done anything to it. It is 100% complete and cools just fine. I am undecided if I should restore it or not. I am getting ready to paint the Multiplex dispenser soon and will be renting a spray booth to paint in. The cost is not a lot but I figure I might as well get the Westinghouse painted at the same time if I am going to do it. Now I am not super attached to it and am not sure if I will keep it. So the way I look at it there are a few possibilities 1. leave as is and see if anyone will buy it for $XXX, if not just keep using it, 2. restore it and see if I can sell it for $XXX+, if not just keep using it and worry about it staying in good shape. So if any one wants to give me their 2 cents on this I would appreciate it. Thanks,
Steve

P.S. I know that chest coolers are not in high demand and have lost a bit of there “value”.

Hi Steve,

If it were mine I'd put some new paint on it. What the heck you already are in the booth and even if you keep it it will look better. I see it has the high crime rate area optional chain already installed :-).

If your question is "will I get my money back" ? No.
Don't under estimate the hours of prep work, cost of paint and materials, and then ................embossed letters everywhere.

The introduction of the new reproduction Junior cooler is going to all but kill demand for the larger ones.  By the way, I ordered the new electric Jr cooler and ran it for a month, til it sold.   Very impressive.  I couldn't buy a Jr , much less  restore it for the $500.00 price tag.

Focus your attention on those cool dispensers Steve

The previous owner put the chain there, it was at a summer camp and they chained the top down to keep the kids out of it. I guess I could leave the chains on it to help hold down what ever I stack on top of it.  ???  :D

Thanks for the input MoonDawg,
I guess I will paint it and just not stress over it getting beat up in use.

Heck yeah... use it!!!! chain it down and if you have a place where it can be seen...... good way
to get people to see you collect this stuff .... may draw in some stuff your way!
That cap catcher is gold too! They only repro that in plastic...... And it has the “fancy” handles.
Great cooler... I have that in a standard and junior with those handles. Pre-war models
Love 'em....
