I know this is off topic for this thread but what the heck... I was told just today that I should have the t-shirts sometime next week... I was in the middle of things with the other screen printer and things went sour, so I was set back and had to regroup but things worked out for the better because I'm also looking into embroidered hats with this guy. Jim, if things don't work out with the shirt/hat guy, I know some one who does great at that. He's a retired school teacher in Florida who sells that stuff as a hobby. His quality and prices are great. I have purchased several thousand dollars worth of stuff through him for a big program we did here at work. I can provide all the info if you'd like. My email is waynestrine@yahoo.com Wayne Title: Smc chapters Post by: Kevin C on May 05, 2005, 07:42:25 am Hey Marikto
I understand. I have been having a crappy two weeks with the city trying to get permits to renovate a house into a new office building. Work has got me by the short hairs but I think I have the problem solved. Now today is 05-05-05 or 5 May Cinco de Mayo I am calling for the formal opening of the SMC South- East chapter for today at 630 pm EDT. We will vote & pull long necks to celebrate! Title: Smc chapters Post by: MoonDawg on May 05, 2005, 11:01:25 am West coast here. What does a chapter do?
This geograhphical breakdown is great. Noticed several posts when the 39 hit ebay this AM. Could e-mail locals direct if a bargain in their back yard Or if buying a machine from another area, members in that area may help pick it up Title: Smc chapters Post by: loman4ec on May 05, 2005, 01:03:22 pm That is a great idea. I have passed on a bunch of machines that were local pickup only due to there distance. If we could all get together and help each other out even with only that it would make a huge difference. I would have no problem driving to pick someone elses machine up packing it up and sending it out. I love this site. I don't know what I would do without all of you.
Title: Smc chapters Post by: 90grad on May 05, 2005, 01:33:52 pm Loman and MoonDawg have a great idea about the pick-up thing. I am still trying to get my FIRST machine and have had to pass on some too far away. I'd rather deal with you guys regarding shipping than a stranger. Naturally, I'd try to return the favor.
Title: Smc chapters Post by: loman4ec on May 05, 2005, 01:55:31 pm 90grad,

Title: Smc chapters Post by: loman4ec on May 05, 2005, 02:22:17 pm Darn I was hoping you were closer as I have a few machines to sell. It looks like I might be making another transfer here soon to Atlanta si I am going to lighten the load to machines that I want to keep.

Eric, It all depnds. The midwest chapter has a test to determine if you are a midwesterner: Complete the following sentence: I need to get to the store and get some more _ for my '56 A) Soda B) <Favorite Beer> C) Pop D) Coke's Acceptable answers are B or C. D is also acceptable, unless you are using the south of the Mason-Dixon line and use Coke to refer to any carbonated beverage.... Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 05, 2005, 02:53:04 pm Ok,
This is already in Excel so it's easy to add info. How about this: Western US: Creighton, 38, Creighton Smith, San Jose, CA. Ship, Where we have Login, Member Number, Real Name, City, State, and Ship for those who will pick-up and ship. Idea's? Once we settle on something just PM me what you want listed and I'll build the update. Eric, see rule 1 :-) Start your own join an existing whatever. Moondawg, A Chapter doesn't have to do anything but as you see they evolve to meet the needs of members. Also can get together for lunch, swap meets that sort of thing. Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: loman4ec on May 05, 2005, 03:11:08 pm www.machinemover.com rates are generally $300 door to door and he will even bring the machine into your house. You can also get cheeper rates from fedexfreight or forward air if you ste up an account. PM me if you are inetested in anything.
Title: Smc chapters Post by: sodaworks on May 05, 2005, 07:22:31 pm SMC chapters seem like a really good idea. I think we all would benefit from it. It will also be a good source of networking bewteen all of us.
Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 05, 2005, 08:44:10 pm Spot on Terry!
Anybody care to write up a step-by-step (FAQ) for shipping issues? How to pack/crate, who to use/not use, if accounts can be shared etc.. San Jose Airport is 10 minutes away so I'm sure I could Forward Air but don't know how. Thanks in advance. Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: BrianB on May 05, 2005, 09:25:01 pm Creighton,
That is an excellent idea. I'm going through the wringer right now trying to get a machine shipped. It's not the shipping company...It's the seller I bought the machine off of! JohnieG was gracious enough to hook me up with FedEx Freight and give me some insight as how to better protect the machine so no damag occurs in transit. Not saying I volunteer anybody....... I think that collectively we will be able to generate something of great value! Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 05, 2005, 09:59:18 pm Thanks Brian!
Been on this board awhile and the same things just seem to always turn up. Hoping to gather and sort resources so all can avoid trouble, help each other locally etc.. The saintly manner that JonnieG has always posted the "Free Play" diagram is what got me thinking. Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: Ltransam on May 05, 2005, 10:10:21 pm Hey !!! Keith Title: Smc chapters Post by: joesquid on May 06, 2005, 03:12:46 am I'll start the New England Chapter. Anybody else up this direction? I'm in Maine!
So as I see it, the main issues we want to cover right now are: 1. FAQs on shipping 2. Setting up point of contacts in each chapter for member-based shipping Anything else? Title: Smc chapters Post by: 90grad on May 06, 2005, 05:14:50 am Maybe there could be folders (sticky ones that always appear at the top) where we could post machine availability info. Each one could be labeled by the chapter and anyone, anywhere, who knows of an available machine (be it by eBay, ad in paper, heard from a friend, etc) can put it in the right place.
Just a thought. Title: Smc chapters Post by: on May 06, 2005, 09:06:30 am
Keith, I'm in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area in Minnesota. Where are you? Until about a week ago (when sodacans joined) I had been the only Minnesotan here. But I might as well be an Iowan (though I don't want to be one) because that seems to be where I end up driving long trips to pick up machines off eBay. Two weeks ago I drove all the way to the Iowa-Nebraska border and then right back home! What's with Iowa having so many anyway? Title: Smc chapters Post by: BrianB on May 06, 2005, 11:03:19 am Just to inconvience you Kito!!!
Title: Smc chapters Post by: on May 06, 2005, 01:45:01 pm Hey, I'm late to this thread, but where'd Wichita fall in this chapter grouping?
I really like the idea about sharing leads on machines, helping on pickup, etc. So many of these sellers (the individuals, at least) are intimidated by the thought of wrapping/palletizing/ shipping machines, it would be helpful to cover each others' back. Besides, it seems that many machines seem to be regional, so if you have the misfortune of craving a particular make, the moving truck always seems to figure in. Also - sticky topics -- faq's - wonderful idea. There's a lot of good topics out there that come in handy later. Shipping in particular is a real challenge. Loman clued me into machinemovers - although the cost for my moves was $400 - and it sounds like there's others out there. Maybe worth just having a standing topic of who uses what carrier, and what experience they're having. Sounds like a lot of great ideas. This site definitely has been a blast to be involved in, very helpful when tinkering with something as complex as some of these machines. Title: Smc chapters Post by: on May 06, 2005, 01:45:26 pm Better clarify -- Wichita KS -- for the last question

I'll try and crank out a build tonight. Anybody care if I pull whatever names and towns that are in the posts on this thread? For those on the first list and don't want anything added no need to respond. If you are want additions/subtractions please use the PM button below. I'll post the list under a new thread "Smc chapters and members." Have a show this weekend but next week will put the XLS, and a TXT copy on a server and sort out how to post links to the files. Plenty of room on the server so we can park whatever else there as well (FAQ's, Diagrams etc..). Basically a files section. Jim is busy and I don't want to ask him to add any workload. Lot's of great resources here, bet we'll get everything sorted. Ongoing shipping experiances post is a great idea. The UPS driver here is great, the FedEx guy is terrible. Maybe a post for FAQ's under construction as well. Joesquid nailed the action items: Point of Contact. I'll add a POC field. No way I'm putting emails. Phone #'s and such into this database unless requested. Idea's on how to be a POC and not get spammed/TM'd let us know :-) Shipping and any FAQ/ how-to anybody wants to contribute. Great work all!! Creighton PS, Bryan thanks! Can't figure out the 439 joke. Course 38 is a high estimate of my IQ on any given day :-) Title: Smc chapters Post by: petey64 on May 06, 2005, 11:22:57 pm If you need any help just holler
Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 07, 2005, 12:50:50 am Sorry folks, didn't get the build out. Set up for the show and had some oh s**t issues. Lot's of some product shipped to Pullap, WA. None here in San Jose. These things happen. I'm doing corrective action now.
Thanks so much Petey64!! Will be giving you a holler. Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 07, 2005, 07:12:21 am Creighton,
I know this may be a lot to ask; but if everyone goes to their comtrol panel, they can edit the information to include their real name and location. Only recently did I require a member's real name to be entered for registration. In the location field, just enter your complete address including zip code. Then I could run a query on the database and provide a complete list of names and addresses. The down side may be that I may not have a way to filter out the dead records, people that aren't participating. Let me know if you think this will expedite the process... Title: Smc chapters Post by: MoonDawg on May 07, 2005, 10:06:57 am OK Jim. I just added my zip code to my profile. If everybody who is current does this, then the only zip codes you will have will be current members, right? Could this reduce the size of the list ?
Title: Smc chapters Post by: keithm on May 07, 2005, 11:00:36 am Is there a spot for zip code ? Where did you put it ?
Title: Smc chapters Post by: MoonDawg on May 07, 2005, 12:18:24 pm He asked that it be put on the same line as City and State
Title: Smc chapters Post by: BryanH on May 07, 2005, 12:28:46 pm
Nothing to do with IQ... was just being silly. The number seemed like it was an age or ranking... so "537 (but I feel like a 439)", was an attempt at a joke. I won't quit my day job Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 07, 2005, 01:03:10 pm I'm looking into this as we speak.
The database stores the last activity any member has on the board, but it's stored in unix timestamp format. I have posted a question at Ikonboard's Site in the hopes of limiting the records returned based on last activity timestamp... Say, the last thirty days. Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 07, 2005, 05:01:01 pm I have a way to filter the records based on a member's "Last Activity"...
If everyone that is going to participate in being included in Creighton's database, we can set a time for all profile updates to be completed within a week, two weeks, etc, etc... Just let me know. Creighton, Here are the fields I was going to pull from the DB: MEMBER_NAME: (Member's User Name) MEMBER_NAME_R: (Member's Real Name) LOCATION: (Updated address) LAST_ACTIVITY: (used to filter list) We'll need to have the member's Real Name entered as well as their complete address so records will be accurate. Once this database has been compiled, everyone that doesn't want this information to be available, can then go back to their profile and edit the data as needed... On another note, if you would like more participants, I can send an email message explaining our intentions to all receiving members and invite them to subscribe... Just a thought... Hopefully helpful... Title: Smc chapters Post by: Pat Pixley on May 07, 2005, 09:03:22 pm Ok here my post. Just a note I belong to wwwfancollectors.org
and we have to use our real name's, There is no handle's and email must be valid at all time . I think this is a plus . Pat Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 08, 2005, 01:53:26 am Jim,
You are the man!! I really didn't want to burden you with any more work. Thanks for helping out!! I've added SJ zip to my profile as a test. If you could send a DB dump in whatever format I'll start working on getting this to fly. How about I get this working for the folks that have joined so far and then send out an invite to others once the DB format is sorted? My college work was in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Which is basically who, what and where. I need to update some job skills so this not work at all, it's fun. Looks like rain tomorrow so will try and get a temp update posted. Thanks again Jim, Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 08, 2005, 07:29:23 am Creighton,
I'll get on this tonight since it's Mother's Day and I have a few visits planned for today... How far back would you like me to cut the Last Activity off... Everyone that has been here in the last 24 hours, 36 hours, a week, etc... I was thinking on keeping the window narrow since anyone that has been reading would have responded either by posting or modifying their profile to include the accurate info... I will say this, the longer the time, the more inaccurate data you will have to sort through... As a last suggestion, I can create an Access Database rather quickly and include the data... Title: Smc chapters Post by: MoonDawg on May 08, 2005, 09:48:52 am Hey Jim. Do you need the complete address on that 1 line?
And, did you get my pic of the Glasco? Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 08, 2005, 07:34:48 pm Glen,
I'm not sure how much info Creighton wants to collect for the DB... And yes, Thank You for the pictures, I did receive the photos but wish you had taken a photo of the complete machine... I will say this, the machine is looks to be in excellent condition cosmetically! It looks just like the G-500-M2 or G-800-M2, but you stated it's a G-600...? Could I ask for a possible reschedule of the photo shoot in the hopes of acquiring a full view photo...? Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 08, 2005, 08:22:40 pm Jim,
No hurry at all. Let's just go back 7 days. Access is perfect. Just going to put city/state on the public DB. You can enter whatever you want to share in the profile. Thanks! Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: MoonDawg on May 08, 2005, 08:22:58 pm You're right Jim. Id tag reads 800, not 600. But in

I have been following this thread for a while. As I live many miles away from any of you with a huge Ocean inbetween I guess I don't belong to any Chapter. It did strike me though that some of you might collect other antique that are readily available here in the UK but not in the US. Now everyone submits accurate data... Yesterday, I pulled the data from the database and sent it to Creighton in an Access DB; now he'll have to update things which will delay his next release... Take no offense everyone! I was just hoping to streamline this process so little work would have to be done... Creighton, let us know if this database will meet the needs of everyone... Besides being the home of Valparaiso University, it is also where Orville Redenbacher was from and, up until about five years ago, where the popcorn was made. Just in case anyone is keeping tabs! Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 10, 2005, 08:17:54 pm Ok, SMC Chapter members. How about we do this:
For those willing to ship please edit your post to this thread just say also SHIP or whatever. I'll sort it out. I'm dropping the member number field and adding ZIP code. If you don't want your zip code on the list edit your reply or send me a PM. If you are new to the board or want to be included please respond to this thread. I'll do another build in a day or two and post that under a new topic. Most likely "SMC Master Chapter List". Any questions just ask. I thought this whole thread started as joke & now it has taken a life of its own. What are we really trying to do? Find out which members live close to each other? Still waiting for some south east members! Kevin 29466 SC Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 16, 2005, 04:26:51 pm Kevin,
I'm about as far south east as it gets; Stuart, FL If you go too much further south you'll run out of land... Creighton, Have you had an opportunity to look at the database I created...? If so and if you think you'll enter the names and other data, could you forward the database to me with all the updated information...? Title: Smc chapters Post by: Creighton on May 17, 2005, 06:42:24 am Kevin,
This was never a joke. I floated it out to see if we could get a list of folks close to each other and see if some SMC members would be able to assist in shipping eBay/other "local pickup only" to other SMC members. The shipping part appears to be of little interest. These things happen. Jim, Sounds like the PM I sent you didn't get there. In a nutshell I could only read the CSV. I'll generate a new build with the replys to this thread sometime Tue. I'm just going to use Excel (Access is overkill). Anybody that wants the xls/CSV file just holler. Creighton Title: Smc chapters Post by: Jim on May 17, 2005, 09:44:03 am Creighton,
I apologize; I did receive your PM but it was vague so I wasn't sure... Perhaps you don't have MS Access installed on your system and that's why you couldn't open the file... If MS Excel works for you that's fine, I'm geared towards databases since there so much more you can do with the information... Title: Smc chapters Post by: Bob K on May 18, 2005, 07:20:10 am I'm in MA - sign me up for the Northeast chapter. I don't have the ability to help much with shipping but I will assist folks in any way I can.
