Title: 1955 VMC 340 paint color
Post by: FlaJunkie on June 28, 2024, 01:16:02 pm
Opinions seems to vary about the red color used on the Vendorlator Coke machines through the years.

I decided to load the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap app and scan a buffed location on the front of my 1955 machine.

It came back as Tomato Red.

I've always thought the old machines were a deeper red color but I am now guessing it is paint fade.

What do you think?

The early machines ('40's) seemed to be a deeper Red that the '50's machines to me, which seemed to be a bit more "orangy" to me. but yeah, I'm sure sun fade can certainly lighten up a machine, especially Reds...there's only like a dozen shades of "coke" red out there anyway!

That's the issue. Different reds.

I think the original color is under the faded layers.

Here's a pic of what the app saw. The shiny spot is the buffed area.

Check the inside edge of the door frame, you'll usually find unfaded paint there...
