Title: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on August 04, 2019, 09:02:01 pm Just finishing up repairing a nice original VMC Faygo VF56, just bored so I thought I'd post some pictures, clean, rust free and straight, it's a nice example of an original machine, basically, it stopped cooling for the customer, found that the cooling system was undercharged due to a slow leak , aggravated by a condensing coil was blocked by a wall of dust/lint & pet-hair, so I power washed the lower compressor compartment ( filthy, hadn't been touch in decades ) replaced the main wiring harness ( dry-rotted), both the evap' & condenser fan motors, installed a system service valve on the low-side of the compressor, recovered what was left of the R12 & installed some poly conversion oil & added a leak stop treatment and converted it over to R134A, the compressor is in solid shape with a good current-draw, but not so the start-run relay assembly, so it also has a new 3-in-1 starter/booster,
I added a few newer options for the customer , a free play switch actuated by the coin-return lever, a LED bottle rack light to illuminate the bottles in the gates, repaired & made functional again the original EM coinmech & set it back to 10-cents, bonus was I found the original price label hiding behind a hand-written tag for 25-cents. Oh & I unplugged the condensate drain hose for the bottle compartment and installed a missing coin-door lock. & replaced the Faygo marque's lamp & installed a correct size florescent FS-5 starter so it can light the way to the Faygo red-pop (strawberry-cream soda for you out of townies) All & all he should be pretty happy to get his machine back down into his family room & serving cold ones again. Not a complete restoration, but it's now a solid, functional refurbished machine. Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on August 05, 2019, 12:40:05 am Nice job!

Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on August 06, 2019, 09:32:02 pm Thanks, here’s the free vend switch & a pic of the cleaned deck oh look, it’s pink not scum-gray :tounge:
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: BrianS on August 06, 2019, 11:07:27 pm The LED lighting in the bottle door completely changes the appearance of the machine. Really nice upgrade. I never realized these machines had side vents for the condenser fan, I thought they faced forward. Looks great.
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Devman on September 11, 2019, 01:44:27 pm The LED light is a nice touch. I did the same to my VFA56ZC can machine and love the look of it! Easy to do and a cool "upgrade."
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on May 22, 2020, 04:08:32 pm Do you have a wiring diagram ? Working on this machine and noticed there are molex connectors on the original wiring harness . Thanks!
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on May 23, 2020, 12:06:45 am This one?
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on May 23, 2020, 02:22:09 pm No. The main wiring harness on the original has a molex connector coming off the hot wire .
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on May 23, 2020, 02:57:38 pm This harness?
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on May 23, 2020, 05:27:01 pm or more like this one?
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on May 23, 2020, 07:22:06 pm Yes
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on May 23, 2020, 09:29:32 pm Yes LOL, Funny... :glare: so the first or the second? before I don't care anymore.. :upside: And now, a word from our Fearless Leader... Did you just re use it?
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on May 24, 2020, 05:18:16 pm The pigtail harness with white molex connector. Did you just re use it? The picture shown is a Compressor deck that's in my shop for repair/refurbishing, I'm replacing the compressor ( it's super noisy with a broken internal vibration spring, so it sounds like a a cross between a machine-gun and a pneumatic impact wrench when it runs :Oo: I'm also replacing both the Evap' & Condenser fan motors, the harness itself is in perfect shape, so yes Ill be reusing it, the white Molex style / 2-pin connector is the main 120 volt supply to the door harness. Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on May 24, 2020, 08:40:36 pm Thanks . I planned to cut mine like your picture and ties those (2) wires shown back into the hot wire on the wiring harness door light wires.
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on June 07, 2020, 06:15:11 pm Is free play pins 1 & 3 like the diagram ? I’m
using 16-14 male spade terminal connectors but they don’t plug into the Jones Plug on the machine . Almost like they aren’t long enough or over time the plug has worn out ? Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: MoonDawg on June 07, 2020, 07:27:17 pm Will removing the blue plastic insulators help you to push the connectors in further?
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on June 07, 2020, 08:06:43 pm That was my next step ..

Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on June 08, 2020, 12:05:16 am The orientation of the pins threw me off a bit . Here is how it worked for me in my machine.
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: johnieG on June 08, 2020, 07:43:41 pm Perhaps this drawing of the coin mechs female socket ("jone" plug) will help with your wiring issue
Title: Re: Faygo VF56 repair Post by: Slapshot42 on June 08, 2020, 08:42:26 pm I understand the concept it’s either orientation of the plug in the machine. It’s not labeled so it was a game of guess what pins are 1& 3? Or the Jones Plug was replaced at one time and not re wired correctly .
