Title: Slap shot
Post by: keithm on April 22, 2005, 09:12:34 pm
I threw in one of my favorite movies the other night. Slap Shot. I had not watched it since I have been participating at SMC. Early on in the movie I noticed a great machine that the Hanson brothers are shaking like crazy because it stole their quarter. As I continued to watch there were two more different machines shown in the movie, as well as wooden cases of empties and the old style can. There was even a dispenser in one scene but I couldn't capture a good shot of it. I thought it was cool to see something from that era that had never caught my eye before. Any thoughts on the models. My favorite is the one with the Hanson brothers. Any other movies where the machine are so obvious ?

The first is a vendo 126 and the third is a Cavalier 96. I have no idea what the second one is.

Uuuummm.  They look a little older than I remember.  Was Slap Shot the song they released after MmmBop?  :p

Keith,
That is a great movie. I like the Hansons playing with the AFX cars and then just pounding the #@*% out of the other team.
Other fun ones from that era are "Rollerball" and "Lemans". "Clockwork Orange" is out there but interesting. Think Markito had a thread going on about machines in movies awhile back...

Dr. G. not the same Hanson Bro's that your students relate to :-)

Oh, I think I see the difference now!

Back on topic...Do you think the second machine is a Cavalier C4-96?

Dimensions:    61" high, 25 9/16" wide, 24" deep

Great additions! I have more to add in the next few days too.

Jim, any chance you could move these to my earler "Official list"?

My wife watches a TV show called Mad Men, which is set in the 60's. She always calls me in when they have a scene with a vending machine. They had a DP SelectiVend a while back and most recently a National candy machine.

FYI - the above link (Soda Machines Sightings in the media) is inactive

5 year old post .
Good memory Tom.
Don't know why the full link is dead. Suspect the software upgrade.
Just shows how the internet never forgets :-)
