Title: Power consumption, vendo 83
Post by: on April 20, 2005, 11:53:25 am
Hi!

I´m just wondering how much power the Vendo 83 consumes?

I need to know this since I´m going to buy a transformer that converts 110 volts to 220.

Hello

Look on your data plate. It will give you the amp draw of your machine & this will tell you the size electrical circut or breaker needed to run the machine. Now remember this is from the design spec's from when the machine was built so the amp draw may be a little higher when the compressor starts now due to the age of the compressor.

Start there

Ummm.....Your Vendo 83 won't take kindly to 220VAC. Do you mean a step down transformer from 220VAC to 120VAC? If so, that's all good. If your thinking about going from 120VAC to 220VAC you are also going to need to convert all of the electrical components in your machine to include lighting, refrigeration (compressor). Everything in these machines built here in the US are rated for 120VAC only. If you try to run it off of 220VAC, standy-by to call the local fire department!

Power consumption by the compressor alone is around 220 Watts for a 1/4 horsepower compressor motor which equates to about 1 1/2 to 2 amps current draw and it might peak at around 5 to 6 amps but that's a quick peak at turn-on.

Hi Safta,
I believe a 500w transformer is fine but play safe and look on your data plate. I used a step down transformer for my Vendo 39 in Germany. The transformer drops down your voltage from 220v to 110v, so it will be fine.

safta,
Replace your fan motors. The one motors are more energy efficient. I would also drop in a new wiring harness. Terry :drinkers:

Thanks for the quick answers!

Yes, I meant a stepdown transformer from 220 to 110/120 and not the other way around:)

Sodaworks>So do you think that I need to replace all the wires in the machine? Do you think that an electrician can do this?

Is there anything else that I need to replace to get it to work in a safe way?

This is what the plats looks like...

Could it be 4,2?

Looks like 4.2 amps to me.  Where are you located?

I´m located in Sweden. What kind of transformer do you think I need when you´ve seen this plate?

Basic formula for wattage is amps x volts; therefore 4.2 amps x 115 volts = 483 watts.  In this case I think a 500 watt transformer may be a little too close to the maximum continuous rating.  I'd give myself a little "start surge" room and go with an 800 watt transformer.

Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks you very much for the help! I´ll look for a transformer that can deliver about 800 watt.

Safta,
I would replace the complete wiring harness and both fan motors. The wire harness cost about 35.00 U.S. and the fans are 26.00 U.S.  It will run more efficiently and you will not have to worry about old rotton wires shorting out and causing a fire. The wiring harness comes with simple instructions. You will not need an electrician. Terry :drinkers:

Ok, where can I buy these things?

Not to say that sodaworks is wrong in any way, but if you look over the wiring and it looks ok there is no reason to replace it. If mine is brittle of frayed I replace them on origional machines but for example I am selling a Pepsi vf56 today and I went over it this week and the wiring looked fine so I am keeping it the way it is. As for fan motors. Some people replace them and some people don't. I say if it aint broke don't fix it. A good running fan motor could run for another 50 years, but at the same time it could go out tomorrow. On restored machines I replace them but on an origional If it seems fine I keep it that way.

The voltage step-down transformer rated at the correct VA (wattage, technically A.C. electric motor power is rated in Volt-Amps, ie: "VA" ...D.C. power is rated in "watts") but it's not a big deal to refer to it as "watts"....so enough electrical theory 101...

Also be sure your evaporator electric motor & condensor's motor are rated for 60/50 hz (cycles) of A.C. line frequency,
it's 60hz here in the States & Canada, the only reason I mention it is because at 50hz, the motors will consume a little more power & generate more heat (if they're not rated for 50/60hz) & you'll have to take it into consideration in sizing the step-down transformer.  just a thought

Ok thanks!

And how many VA is 800 watt?

Ok thanks!

And how many VA is 800 watt?

800 Watts = 1200VA (approx)

(Watts x 1.414 = VA; VA x 0.7 = Watts)

Safta,
You can get the harness and motors from sodajerk works or Funtronics. :drinkers:
