Title: Price guessestimate Post by: petey64 on April 18, 2005, 01:29:27 pm I saw this machine in an alley garage that was being cleaned out, it seems to be in very good conditon with no rust to speak of and it starts up and cools off and runs very quietly it has no coin mech and handle of course and i am what to offer the guy for it.
picture of the machine in question Title: Price guessestimate Post by: Eric on April 18, 2005, 02:10:18 pm I believe it's a Westinghouse.... Embossed everything... I would love to have this one.
Without the coin mech and handle (which I'd make sure to mention) maybe ask him what he'd take to get it off his hands?..... As far as throwing a price out... that's tough due to eBay seems everybody and their brother “knows about machines” and want a fortune. They see the price of a restored old Coke machine for $2XXX.XX and they're all worth that. Does he know what he has?..... How'd he get it ? Does he collect? That will tell if you're gonna have to offer high or not.... If it's just an old machine to him in the way I'd offer $300..... You're gonna be hunting for another machine like that for the parts (which I think in my Road Trip 2005 thread, Randy has one outside... you can see it in the pictures) good luck..... It's the "Westinghouse WC-42" from the early 1950s. Vends 42 bottles 53.5" High 25" Wide 20" Deep If it were me, I'd pay between $1 and $500 for it. But preferably the lower the better. I just saw one on eBay not that long ago. Title: Price guessestimate Post by: sodaworks on April 19, 2005, 10:06:12 am Petey64,
Offer him a 100 bucks, tell the seller that you will have to spend a few hundred bucks to replace the missing coin mech. parts to complete the machine. Title: Price guessestimate Post by: sodaworks on April 19, 2005, 10:07:54 am I am going to be picking up a westinghouse 42 complete for 300.00 next week. Looks to be in great condition.
Title: Price guessestimate Post by: petey64 on April 19, 2005, 09:33:04 pm I purchased it for 150.00 and i am going to just by pass the coin mech and give it too one of my brothers, i gotta say it is a sweet little machine the insides are nice and someone at sometime put some effort in taking off the rust without harming it.
P.S. my wife still can't figure out how one person lugs these things around and my neighbors have just given up and labeled me the crazy white guy down the street but it makes them all smile Title: Price guessestimate Post by: on April 19, 2005, 11:39:06 pm Wow! Only $150
I'm jealous. Great going. How lucky you happened to drive past it one day. I must admit that my driving safety has suffered a bit in the past few months because now whenever residential garages and auto shops have their garage doors open, I'm always trying to see in while I drive past. Not the safest, but I dream of spying an old machine. Title: Price guessestimate Post by: sodaworks on April 20, 2005, 10:40:23 pm Kito,
I have bought several machines this way. You never know whats behind a garage door. Terry |
