Title: La crosse 81 pepsi machine
Post by: on April 13, 2005, 09:41:22 pm
Hello...I'm new here.  I have a La Crosse 81 Pepsi Machine that seems to be in great working order except the fact that it's not cooling.  Anyone have experience with this machine.  It's my first and I don't even know who to call locally to come charge it with freon.  HELP...We're thirsty!! :drinking:

Hello and Welcome to the board.
I can't help but someone will. Try a search on JonnieG posts he and others have done an outstanding job of providing step by step checks to sort out what could be amiss.

Thanks!  I've heard from someone locally who asked me to check and see if the the place on the compressor that gets charged is welded shut or not.  Mine seems to be....now what? :darn:

Huh?  sounds like you need a new guy :suspect:    ...that is a pretty silly question to me anyway, what the heck does the factory process-tube ( the tube that the factory originally evacuated & charged the compressor system with) have to do with the compressor having a proper charge? call some of your local vending machine guy's & see if they can help...

I have also had a heck of a time finding someone to service my machines. I only found one guy local and he said that it was no problem to top off a machine with 134a. Needless to say I never called him back.

A very common problem.....I was telling Josh when he dropped off my Cavalier 55D that I had a difficult time finding an A/C&R Tech. to pull a vacuum and fill my system with R-12.

I did end up finding a guy that did it for free because he really dug the old refrigeration deck. Really, it's all about giving the "right" info, kinda like shipping a soda pop machine. Don't tell 'em it's an antique or that it has glass.

With some of the guys the second I let it be known that it was an OLD soda pop machine they acted like I was Michael Jackson in a daycare center....They wanted absolutely nothing to do with me and they acted all offended! So after 8 or 9 phone calls, I finally got tired of the crappy attitudes and ended up telling one guy to go  :censored:  himself.

I'm not saying that you should lie per say...But, "bending" the truth a bit seems to work ok :D  Just give 'em the answers to what they ask and nothing more. Don't volunteer ANY information!

JohnieG - I feel hurt... I was the local guy  :D I was trying to figure out if the lines (not just the stub) had already been tapped or if the system was still sealed.

Then I pointed Jokamou to the great folks here on the boards...  and this link on refridgeration lines.

No offence intended hartlenb, your explanation makes sense now, but based on what info Jokamou had in the posting, I couldn't follow the line of thinking, obviously the later part you mentioned ( checking to see if the system tapped & still sealed) was left out in the original posting, and so , a thousand pardons Saheeb!  :blushing:  it happen's to me all the time, tell a customer that it could be "A-B-C" & they tell another guy "He said it's "C" .... :D

Hello

If you really need to add freon you can add a tap valve but I dont think that it is a handyman do it yourself type of job. I own an AC company so each of my service men can work on my machines if needed. Go to you local ac repair parts company ( CC Dickson, Baker Brothers, etc) and ask the fellow behind the desk for an AC man to do the work. Take a few pictures of your machine with you to show.

Just an idea

Kevin

No offence intended hartlenb, ...

JohnieG - no offense taken...  The fact that the folks on these boards call'em as they see'em is what makes this such a great resource.  Just wanted Jokamou to know the advice was reasonable and that he can trust the SMC contributors.
