Howdy all,
I got a Westinghouse 44 in my garage and was wondering if anyone had any info or experience on this machine? The shell is in great shape but it's missing the compressor/evap assembly and most of the outer door parts and the coin mech. I'd like to restore it but not sure what else is missing and if it would be worth trying to restore. I know it's considered a "poor man's Vendo 44" and I got it free so my cost would be purely restoration costs and part replacement. So here are my questions:
1. Are there any major hurdles to restore this type of machine? Any difficult parts to find?
2. Does anyone have any manuals? I have a copy of a copy of a copy, etc and really need something to show me parts breakdown in better condition than mine.
3. Will it take only the compressor/evap assembly designed for this machine or can other units be used?
4. Is it worth restoring or should I just part it out?

Moondawg has two of them that I am sure he would sell parts off of. The only hard thing to find is the coin mech. It is the same as a Vendo 81D. You are going to find that this part alone will cost between $300 and $450. But I think that you should be able to modify something to work as free vend. I really like them. If I were you I would restore the machine.

I would go for it. They are cool machines. I like any of the Westinghouse stuff, it always had a different look compared to everyone else. Too bad they are the ugly stepchild when it comes to values.

There is a man in Big Spring, TX that used to be a refridgeration tech for Coke, when the bottler closed up 3 years ago he got all of their leftovers. All this to say he has a bunch of cooling asemblies that he aquired when coke made all their customers upgrade to R134. If some one could send a picture of the appropriate assembly I could probably get it cheap and ship it to ya! They are all charged and under cover with little to no rust. Justin

Thanks for the input, sorry it took so long to reply, out doing "Navy stuff". Justin, I'll pics made of the compressor assembly from the manual I have and post them to you. Thanks for the assist!

Yeah Justin, that's pretty #### cool of you! See, that's why I keep coming back here...other than the fact that I'm totally addicted to this!!
