Title: 7up selectivend update
Post by: loman4ec on April 11, 2005, 07:27:53 pm
I just wanted to show everyone how the 7up machine is going. It is now in primer and ready for paint. Hopefully I can get it in for paint tomorrow. I am going to paint the whole thing white and then decide what I want to be green.

Just to refresh your memory this is what the machine started as.

Here is all of the chrome and polished aluminum ready for the machine. This thing is going to be shiny. Yes the big pieces are the outside trim that used to be anodized. They look great polished.

Josh,
How did you polish the trim pieces.  Do you have a polishing wheel, drill with a buffer...just curious.

I send it out. I have a polisher in Daytona Beach that is a god. His name is Henry Canup. His # is (386)846-5421 or go to www.getpolished.com. If you talk to him tell him the Coke machine guy sent you. He is a really nice guy. All together all of the polishing cost $250 but that included shipping and those trim pieces are big and I built a crate for them out of Masonite and 2X4's so they wouldn't get damaged so about $75 of that is shipping. He is really worth it and a heck of a nice guy.

What did you do to get rid of the rust? Sandblast?

Title: 7up selectivend update
Post by: loman4ec on April 11, 2005, 10:25:52 pm
Everything was just light surface rust that had discolored everything. I sanded most of the machine down to metal with a DA, and some of it I used chemical striper. I did use one of those wheels that hook into a drill to get at some of the rust. I then filled any pits and primed. I do not have a sand blast cabnet yet. Although it is on my want list. I went today and bought a pressure washer and I will tell you what, that is something everyone needs. I have been taking my machines in the back of my truck and standing them up in the bed at the quater car wash to clean them but not anymore. I don't know how many of you have Meijers but they have a 1400 PSI electric powerwasher on sale for $68. It works great.

That one belongs to Bob K now. He bought the machine from me shortly after I got it. Are you looking for a machine? I have a bunch of them.

I don't have any more westinghouse's. Just a bunch of Cavalier's and a nice Vf 56 pepsi. That westinghouse is on it's way to Boston if I remember correctly. It is a nice machine. But I like the slant shelf machines more. There is less to go wrong.

I agree with that. Now that I have my first working slant shelf, I am amazed by its simplicity compared to my V216MD.
The person that thought up the slant shelves was very smart.

Thanks for the info. The slant shelves do look like they would be easier to use. What models of Coke machines have them ??

Thanks

Keith

Well the 7up machine was painted today. I haven't seen it yet but I am going to pick it up on Friday. I can't wait. Now I have a place to paint so I think this will be the last machine that I have to pay someone to do.

Well I got the machine home this morning. It looks really good. I have already got the liner in it and it looks great. Here are some pictures. I took the embossing to be painted yesterday so I should have that back sometime this week.

The machine is coming along nicely. I have to stop working on it for a while since we are having a garage sale this weekend and then I am going to North Carolina on Tuesday (thanks to Firemun) But when I get back the embossing should be done!!

Here is another update. I should have this one done this week. I do have to sell this one as well. I will most likely sell this machine for way less than it is worth so if anyone is interested let me know. This is such a cool machine I would like to see it go to someone I know but either way I have to sell it for the move.

I need to get rid of it quick so I was thinking $1,100 would be fine. I almost have more than that in it. Heck I have $250 just in polishing.

Well I was out in the garage playing with the Jacobs 26 and I realized that I havent posted any pics of the 7up machine finished. It looks so good. I am torn on whether to sell it or keep it. It is so nice and probably the only one like it. I don't know. It is so nice. It has more polished aluminum and chrome than a 57 chevy.

Josh,

Gr-8 job on the restoration!
It's a tough decision... Keep or Sell, Sell or Keep...
Personally, I've come the the realization that I can't keep them all!
(unless I become wealthy in the near future)
 :upside:

Great job... You're really getting good! Yeah I'm at that cross road too... I have so much stuff
all which needs restoring or something... I need to look them all over, have a sale...
I want to keep a couple machine and my dispensers.... The candy machines are cheaper and easier
to restore and display... But it's hard to let go after I do all the hunting.
But kids gotta eat....
Heck if you sell it... something else will come along... heck look how many machines have crossed
you path this past year.
Just think it over...

Eric

I slept on it and I have decided that this machine is a keeper. It is just so great looking with all of that shiny polishing and crisp white paint. I also like how different it is. Thanks everyone.

That restoration makes that machine look sharp. Nice style even without a lite-ip face.
Josh, could you post a close-up pic of that coin mech.without the slug rejector?  I"ve never seen this type before

It is really odd. I have never seen one like it before. The coin chute below looks like it is home made. the slug rejector is the small type as well. Another odd thing about this machine.

Josh,

Nice job! Funny, I just received one, in trade, that has the raised, embossed, light up marque.
I wasn't sure what to do, restore it, junk it, etc. The problem is the side screened/decals. I have no idea where to get them. Is there a place that sells after-market vinyl decals for machines other than
coke?

Thanks, Eric

I get mine from www.sodadecals.com. They are the same company as back in time warehouse www.bitw.com. They are great. If you have any questions ask for Curtis. He is one of the nicest people I have ever worked with.
