I picked up a WD5 cooler recently, didn't think it worked(from the guy I bought it from). Anyway, I started to disassemble the inner partitions, on a hunch,  i plugged it in and it started to cool down. It got down to 31 degrees per my multi-meter and I unplugged it. I have the original Westinghouse unit, I'm thinking the thermostat is stuck, worn  out, or not picking up the right temp, or bad relay i guess. I have the factory manual for reference-but I'm a newbie. Mine has the little black box in front of the compressor where the screw is turned to adjust the kick in & kick out temp. Looking straight at the box, which direction raises the kick off temp Clockwise or counterclockwise? Is there anything in the box that might need to be freed up or other good advice? Thanks...

UPDATE....After spending some more time reading the manual, there are 2 lock screws for the "hex" nut adjustment, after loosening those, i was able to turn the
screw clockwise to raise the kickoff level to a higher temp for stopping. The machine will now kick off when it reaches 31 degrees and will kick on when it gets to 47 degrees.  Yea....I figured it out!! :drinking:

That seems a little warm. Recommended cycle is 32 to 38 in most of the manuals.

I didn't figure into the equation i have this in my garage, where it would have to labor a lot just to get to 32 degrees in this Alabama heat. From reading the manual, I think my model was factory set to kick off at 24 degrees (I thought that would be way too cold?)  but it never even got that close in the time it ran in the garage, couple hours.
I wasn't sure if the thermostat even worked right, that was the first time i had plugged it in since i bought it. Maybe i need to bring it inside to get a good read on the cooling efficiency. I really wanted this to be a shop/garage cooler.
