Title: IGA Porcelain Sign
Post by: sodahunter on January 17, 2017, 09:09:23 am
Anybody ever see one of these?  I think it's an earlier, pre-war version.  Two 8' sections that join in the middle.  Letters and shields are seperate pieces that attach via speed nuts that give it kind of a 3D effect.  I remember seeing A&P stores as a kid, but not the IGA's.  I haven't had a chance to clean it yet, one side is pretty dusty.

Awesome.. IGAs were all over the place here in Missouri... I remember them having a huge metal basket/pallet where you would return your empty soda
bottles and they would hand me the quarter and if I was good my mom let me keep it to get a soda out of one of the 2 small square top soda machines.
Some of those soda cartons are worth good money now... especially the Mountain Dew.
Great sign!

Good memories, there's still one in the small town I grew up in! Nice sign!

IGA's used to be all over MI.  Don't recall ever seeing a sign like that.

Very cool!

How did you come across a sign that large. Agree that should clean up really nice.

Great early sign !! IGA  Independent Grocery Association.
Worked at "Jacks" IGA. through high school. Sorted many of those racks of returned bottles. Still have a few keepers but should have saved more.
