Title: You just never know Post by: racerx45 on April 06, 2005, 08:08:31 pm So I rarely go into antique stores any more because most dealers think they know what soda memorial is worth. If the item happens to say Coca-Cola they usually double that price. Well I stopped by one today just had that feeling, and end up walking out of there with a new dispenser and for a steal (about a 3rd of what they go for).
Title: You just never know Post by: Creighton on April 06, 2005, 08:59:14 pm That is really cool!!
Like the sign. Any idea what the "76" is? Doubt they would waste a tap pull just to 76 someone from the bar but ya never know... You've seen the "Galaxy" on ebay now right? Creighton Title: You just never know Post by: Eric on April 06, 2005, 09:04:47 pm Great Score!!!!! And of all things.... a dispenser! It was meant to be.
76 was some sort of cola from the 40s/50s had a little minute man as a mascot. Title: You just never know Post by: glassbottlesrule on April 06, 2005, 09:18:02 pm 76 was(is) a Lemon-lime soda(think 7 UP). Still bottle by a couple of bottlers in Wisconsin I think.

Title: You just never know Post by: on April 06, 2005, 10:15:59 pm Dumb question, can you still use the old syrup dispensers? Reason is, we have an old Dr. Pepper dispenser in our warehouse. Justin
Title: You just never know Post by: on April 06, 2005, 10:39:33 pm Creighton, don't you mean "86" for removing someone, not "76"?
Title: You just never know Post by: on April 06, 2005, 10:40:44 pm Racer, you have all the dispenser luck.
And I saw the Galaxie on eBay today. I've always wanted one, but I'm sure it will get out of my budget limit really quickly. Title: You just never know Post by: racerx45 on April 07, 2005, 12:11:00 am
With the right dispenser and know how yes these old dispenser can work. But you have to be careful with things like, is it old enough to have used lead fittings, are the old fittings able to handle the pressure of carbonated water, etc. Hey if you can take a picture of it and I can let you know more about it. Title: You just never know Post by: racerx45 on April 07, 2005, 12:18:16 am
Hey Kito, Yeah I saw the Galaxie too and yes they do end up with some high bids. I was luck when I got mine as it was on an Ice Machine and the seller wouldn’t separate them. He was only 45 mins from my house and no one else on eBay wanted to pay for shipping so… I will say that the one on now is nicer than most that pop up so I would keep and eye on it. Title: You just never know Post by: vendobaldtops on April 08, 2005, 02:02:47 pm Steve,
Have you done anything with the Scottsman Ice maker yet? I am glad the machine and Galaxie dispenser went to a good home...was moving out of the country at that time and had to move it.... I've gotten back into collecting but mostly Vendo 63s as of late. Working out of Sebastopol these days...are you stillin SR?hope all is well. Title: You just never know Post by: racerx45 on April 08, 2005, 04:01:37 pm Hey AC,
Good to hear from you, I am glad you put two and two together. I am still in Santa Rosa and have not done anything with the Ice Maker other them move it in to storage. So working out in Sebastopol, I was planning on going out there on Saturday to hit the Antique stores. Hey what happened to all of your machines before you moved? 56’s weren’t they? Title: You just never know Post by: BrianB on April 08, 2005, 07:13:32 pm Boy, all this talk of the Bay Area has me feelin' a wee bit homesick!! I still have two uncles that live in Sebasotpol. I gotta' make a trip out that way this year, it's been darn near 10 years since I've been back. Go Niners!
Title: You just never know Post by: Creighton on April 08, 2005, 11:26:39 pm Nice,
Still have a house in Ft. Bragg. CA. so head up your way every now and again (from San Jose). What about if we sort out a central met point for all interested parties and have a West Coast SMC event? All are welcome here in SJ. Creighton Title: You just never know Post by: racerx45 on April 09, 2005, 12:22:37 am
Creighton, Sounds good to me. My job takes me all over the Bay area so I can even do a mid week lunch. Are there any shows or swap meets around that would be even better? Title: You just never know Post by: vendobaldtops on April 09, 2005, 12:35:23 am One meeting point could be the Alameda Swap Meet over on the old naval base...it's the first Sunday of every month..over 800 vendors..usually a good showing of Coca Cola stuff...I've picked up a few nice coke fishtail signs and a few Westinghouse coolers...good place to make contacts as well.
As for the 56s, they all went away. I do have the VMC 44 still and picked up a nice two tone Cavalier 72 last year...but I do miss those 56s...there are still some good machines floating around the Bay Area..that electric 81D on eBay a few weeks back came out of Santa Rosa and a repainted Cav 72 came out of San Rafael...I just need to get to these things before they hit eBay...I am considering placing ads in local papers..Josh seems to be picking up a machine every week it seems through this way. Yes 76 is still bottled in Wisconsin. Twig bottling in Shawano bottles it in 10oz returnable glass and New London Kist bottling produces bag in the box syrup. And yes it is a Lemon Lime soda. |
