Title: Canada Dry cooler
Post by: MoonDawg on September 24, 2016, 11:17:00 am
I'm not bidding because it's across the country from me, but looks like a fun project to tackle if the price would stay under $400.

Is the cooling unit up underneath? It's not visible in the pictures.

Good eye! No wonder he said he "wasn't sure about the cooling".......it has no compressor!

Yeah! I contacted the seller & asked for a picture of the compressor itself.  We'll see.

No me, he was being dodgy on my request for a picture of the compressor itself... Very evasive, best to assume it didnt.   Passed

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxx,

Can't add pics right now because of time left. there is a cord hanging not
sure if there is s unit above or not but none on bottom as you can see in
the pic. I'm sure it will need a new one if there is one there

Other than the cooler model itself, I always felt the name "spur" Sounded more like disease condition that a drink flavor.

But that's just me.

I stand corrected, I believe this machine does have a compressor!
At first I assumed it was similar to a Pepsi Gullwing, but looking at the photo in Jeff's book gives it a different perspective.
The screen on the inside of the compartment and the 4 access screws on the top of the cooler should have made it obvious.

I've always found that when an adult starts acting dumb, there's something behind it.
I think that's still a decent price if you like that type of cooler.

Agreed, you are buying a project.  All bets are off!

Look, its an OK cooler for the price,  it's a bit of a rusted up mess on the back, ( I'd hope it's not rusted-trough) and it is a desirable model for some and all, (it'd be better if it was a "Canada Dry" instead of "Spur"), I just ask him straight up for a picture of the compressor & only got a song & dance in response,  if it doesn't fine, if it does, prove it.  This model isnt my cup of tea anyway regardless of flavor, personally I feel the same dis-interest for the none vending Gull-wings as well, so to each their own.

Usually it's alcohol :)

Canada Dry bought Nichol Kola Syrup from the H. R. Nicholson company and bottled it under their own name cola Spur... don't know why they didn't
call it Nichol Kola the book doesn't say.  But Canada Dry was H.R. Nicholson biggest customer so I'm guessing they didn't care what they called it...
though it just competed against each other. Wish that was a embossed Nichol Kola with a 5 cent circle instead of Spur. still a cool cooler when restored.

For many of us that never even plug are machines in missing the compressor is not a deal breaker.

Nice deal for that Heintz.  Here is the CD version that I had in my collection for a while.  Wish I had not sold it but I did turn a nice profit so I can't complain.  The glass had been replaced on mine so it was not etched.
