Title: Ideal 85 compressor mod. Post by: johnieG on July 20, 2016, 09:21:16 pm a bit of a side bar show & tell of sorts...
So I was finishing up a repair on an Ideal 85 Pepsi sliders compressor deck for a customer ( the old compressor finally quit working after 65+ years) and I've anyways noticed that the design of units combination evaporator/condenser motor design left much to be desired, basically it's a single motor with a dual ended shaft that cycles on & off with the compressor, but this feature also shuts down the air circulation inside the bottle compartment and I noticed that the compressor was subjected to a bit of a "hot-soak" period between thermostat cycles. So I decided installed a "Delay-off cycle" relay to allow the fans to run for an extra amount of time (5 minutes in this case) to help cool off the compressors case a bit more & help even out the temperature spikes in the drinks compartment, so once the Thermostat shut off the compressor the fans continue to run for a given amount of time, ( which is adjustable) note the additional little black box at the back of the compressor deck in the picture. The circuit modification works well & really helps to smooth out the temperatures "Peak and valleys" as they say. It was also fun adapting the new compressor to the old style side mounts, I had to fab up a sling mount to hold it between the horizontal arms, it too worked out well. Thanks, Creighton Title: Re: Ideal 85 compressor mod. Post by: johnieG on July 23, 2016, 10:32:16 am I'm going to include this mod. On a V23 unit I'm working on for Pat Pixley, same concept as the 85, just a (way) smaller deck.
