Title: 16" Porcelain Coca-Cola Button Signs on Ebay Post by: SIGNGUY on July 19, 2016, 03:32:31 pm I am not one to start rumors but I find it very FISHY how there are all of a sudden several different designs of 16" Coca-Cola Button Sings. They all say 16" porcelain and have different graphics on them.. many from the same sellers , and some overseas. I have collected signs for over 25 years and I am unaware of any 16" porcelain Button signs made for Coca-Cola. They made several 24,36 and 48 but those just had the logo on them , not a full color image. I'm guessing it's a decal that is glazed over with clear powder coating or heavy laquer?
and they are going for BIG MONEY!... Any one else see these and find it strange... I know the Gas/ oil Market has been flooded with fakes for several years and it's ashame to see this happen with Coke Signs. They look very nice indeed and have great color , but lets call a spade a spade here and sell them at what they are, non original, newly manufactured. I hope I can be proven wrong on this, but time to watch out if your a Coke Sign collector.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Inch-Coca-Cola-Button-Sign-Porcelain-Pick-up-6-Mint-Condition/152170145291?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35389%26meid%3D6f57477e871e42ad8b63688f45660496%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D291822658745 Title: Re: 16" Porcelain Coca-Cola Button Signs on Ebay Post by: MoonDawg on July 19, 2016, 06:32:55 pm We just bought 4 repro Coke 16" buttons for $20.00 each, nice quality print.
The guy John is referring to must have found a real NOS stash, just look at the backs of these buttons. :glare: http://www.ebay.com/sch/cocacolapoliceman/m.html?item=152170145291&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 (http://www.ebay.com/sch/cocacolapoliceman/m.html?item=152170145291&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562) Notice that every item he has listed has the same high bidders. :tounge: Title: Re: 16" Porcelain Coca-Cola Button Signs on Ebay Post by: mygoose101 on July 19, 2016, 07:32:27 pm I'm not sign expert so I'm not going to pretend to be one but in just looking at his photos they look as fake as can be, as in not original. But he is also not calling them original either. All 6 of his auctions say the same thing, just 2 sentences. I know if I had those and was selling them as originals I would give a full story of where I got them from and the background of each sign as to where they came from.

They are coming from overseas with good graphics and clear coate, and not being designated as new or reproduction.....selling for big bucks. Buyer has to be really aware of what they are getting- that they are not original. Also not authorized/promoted by Coca Cola in any way ....... Sue

Some porcelain and some just painted. They're bringing big bucks for bottle openers. I wonder where all these people come from that will pay huge prices for stuff that the rest of us know are fake?
Title: Re: 16" Porcelain Coca-Cola Button Signs on Ebay Post by: cohammer on July 20, 2016, 09:18:27 pm If you look at the holes in the button they are no doubt the same stamp as the ones made in the 90s . The holes are at 12 - 3 - 6. - 9 not 2 - 5 - 7 - 10 you could not even use an original mounting bracket to hold them up .

Title: Re: 16" Porcelain Coca-Cola Button Signs on Ebay Post by: ajf5577 on July 21, 2016, 08:07:17 am The 90's repops had a flatter profile. You could spot them from across the room. They were dated as well
There were several arguments about authenticity on some, even where you could see where the date was scratched off of an otherwise mint button. I don't recall seeing a porcelain Repro button though. |
