Title: Sticky help guide?
Post by: dr galaga on April 03, 2005, 02:59:17 pm
Jim & Gang-
There have been some good recommendations in the two Restoration sections, unfortunatly they eventually get lost in the other threads.  Ever thought of making a sticky table of contents?  I have seen this at some other forums.

For Example:
Rust removal
..(Link to thread one)
..(Link to thread two)
Paint codes
..(Link to Coke thread)
..(Link to Pepsi thread)
Removal of the thingamajig on the watchamacallit
.
.
.

If any of the moderators make a thread "sticky", the thread will stay at the top of the category. Will this work for everyone...?
I have done this for a couple of threads but I'm going to go on the recommendations of everyone else as to which threads you would like to "sticky" or "pin" as this board documents it as...
As far as a table of contents, can you provide a direct link to the "toc" on another board so I can take a look...?
Lastly, if you take a few moments and provide links to the threads you wish to have "Pinned", I'll get it done.

Here you go Jim- http://forums.winamp.com/showthr....=187583
A majority of these issues go to another thread.

In case any of you are wondering about the link - If you use WinAmp to listen to a radio station via the Internet, the station uses Shoutcast to stream the information - I like WinAmp a lot better than the other players - but don't worry, I am not pushing for a Soda Machine Radio Network!:p

In the example given, the table of contents (toc) is a "sticky" thread which remains at the top of the category. This also means the toc has to be maintained by someone; whereas, having the important threads as "sticky" (the term on our board is "pinned" for clarification of others listening...), all the important threads will always remain at the top of their respective categories...

Now if I'm hearing you, you would rather have a toc of important threads that are possibly "pinned" (sticky) that are all listed in this toc and locate this toc in, lets say... Chit-Chat or some other category...

My only concern is maintaining and deciding the contents of the toc...

Open for discussion...

Jim-
When I get some time I'll make up something for you to look at.  Might not be for a few weeks.

GREAT IDEA -> I like the sticky TOC with linked and or even edited threads with key information.  As I've said before I'm always cutting and pasting good ideas into a word doc for future reference.  I'd be happy to offer updates to one or more TOC references... Most of the ideas are from other members I've just been snagging the usefule info.
