Title: 2 small issues on my Westinghouse WB78-6B-20
Post by: Rob_Feature on May 28, 2016, 09:11:15 am
This is my 2nd soda machine restoration, so I'm no expert, but I got thru the first one nicely with help from folks here...thanks!!
I picked up a Westinghouse WB78-6B-20 and I think I've got almost everything working...but there's just 2 small problems remaining that I can't figure out:

First:  One of the rows/selections won't vend.  All the others work really well.  When you choose the selection, the motor turns, the 'grate' below the selections lifts up etc...but (I can't really tell 100%) it looks like the bars that hold the soda in the row don't open up (or something else isn't releasing the can).  I can't figure out which part of the machine controls this process.  Does it have to do with the switch on the front?  (as a side note, a previous owner wrote "out of order" on the row inside YEARS ago, so I think it's been out of commission for a long time)

Second:  I wired up free vend with the typical jones swich push button.  About half the time when you push the button I get a 'buzz' instead of a click... it seems like it doesn't quite 'catch' something...so I have to push it again.  After a few pushes it always ends up working, but obviously I want to get it so it works every time with one push.

Any direction on where I should look for these problems?  Thanks!!

Check for a bent link wire that couples the spread-bars to the mechanism, they should be straight with no kinks

Thanks JohnieG, I'll take a look in the morning!  Sending you a PM about a coolant recharge now too :)

Take a look at the Vend Mechanism pics I posted under Member's Restorations off the main page. I restored a WB60 years ago, but the mechanism is the same. Maybe you'll see something amiss. I also have a few parts laying about if need them.

Oops...I was going to add a link, but you may have to wait a bit....looks like the photo gallery is inaccessible currently.

I know everyone here probably already knows that johnieG rules, but met up with him today for a recharge and I just wanted to give a shout out.  Really friendly guy, going above and beyond.  Thanks!

Hi Rob
I'm on my first restore. I have a WB60. I'm having the same issue with the bars not opening enough to vend.
What was the ultimate fix?
Thanks

As Johnny said, make sure the linkage is not bent.
The only adjustment is moving the linkage.
The bottom slot is for bottle diameters up to 2&3/8"
The upper slot is for larger bottles
