 Well after 4 years of trying, I finally talked the owner out of his Hires 55 and Funhouse pinball.  I tore down the 55 today for a complete restore.
 First question :what would be the reason for 4 extra screws  (with thread inserts) beside the Coin Mech ? Deposit box maybe??
 Second Opinion needed: The machine will be sold when done with previous owner given first right of refusal.  The liner is in great shape. If you were a buyer would this liner left as is  ( but cleaned better) add value? subtract value? Neutral? over  being powdered coated ?

Many members that restore the Ideal coolers if cooling do NOT remove the liners.  This box is "cold wall" insulated so the cooling tubes is like spaghetti and are soldered to the liner vertically.

If your approach is to remove the liner ( a good one imo) I have powdercoated the liners with a silver color and the look decent. Removing the cooling is a ton of work but if your are wanting to do a quality restorative my nickels worth of free advice would be to remove it.

I should have been more clear. I have already taking the liner out for new insulation and check for rust. In the long run its just much easier to do a good job with it out of the way.  I found all the coils are detached . I had considered having a new liner made and may check price on that. Has anyone  hade a new liner made if so what did it cost?

That liner looks pretty good.  My recommendation would be to have it powder coated.  My blaster uses a 70 grit glass bead.  There are some intricate bends / angles in the original liner on the sides it may not be worth the cost!

I would recommend making new floor through.  The original one can be taken out and easily be traced, and reproduced!

The extra holes could have been were a penny box was .Slider Bob has a coin mech with this extra changer on it .we were guessing it's for bottle deposit  :tounge: :tounge:

Here you go Johnny. You can see the lever a few inches up from the bottom that joins the 2 boxes.

I think the 4 back mech tubes were filled with pennies.  

My guess is the front mech used to be a nickel rejector, and seller wanted to raise it to 6 cents, so he installed the back mech, and replaced the nickel rejector in the front with a dime rejector.  When you pull up on the bottle gate/flapper, it engages both mechs, and spits out 4 pennies change in the back mech drawer that is silver on the bottom.

Just my theory. I still have both boxes if anyone wants more info.

Thanks Slider-Bob. The screw spacing looks about the same. Would you measure that spacing for me? My mech don't have a lever coming out of it. The machine had original paint and there's no color difference there so I wonder if it was just pre drilled and inserted but never added. Have you had sliders with the inserts installed with out boxes?

Johnny...I have the 2 mechs off the machine in 2 different cardboard boxes.  I can measure the hole distance center to center (side to side, and top to bottom) for the 4 holes.
I would suspect the 2 original mechs are long gone on your machine (now they are on mine...haha), and yours got replaced with a single 10 cent mech.  Never seen a slider with extra holes threaded like yours, except mine.

Glen...I have a faygo 81 transitional where the deposit sticker was 2 cents on it. Was there ever a deposit on bottles of 1 cent? Not sure this was so much as a 20% revenue increase for this work (from 5 cents to 6 cents), but rather for the bottle deposit. Hmmm?  :oh:

 Bob ,looking at the design of the secondary unit I would think that it could give anywhere between 1-4 cents back depending on how many chutes was loaded with pennies. That would cover deposits as they went up  for many years.

Here are the measurements.  Around 4 3/4 inches top to bottom, and 4 1/4 inches side to side (tape looks like 4 1/2 but really closer to 4 1/4)

You can see the latch cutouts in the box in the 3rd pic.

That's probably it. My holes are exactly 4 7/16"  across and 4 13/16 top to bottom center to center. Probably just sloppy drilling.

What was you method for removing the "Slider-Bob" belt buckle guard?  The front stainless piece?

That Penny box on a Slider is wild! I have not seen that one before!

I was wondering the same. I always thought it was too much trouble to remove.

Drilled the spot welds on the upper inside where the rubber goes and used a cutoff wheel on the sides and lower edge. Left  the side and lower peices that is sandwiched between the sheetmedal to hold the correct spaceing. Im now massaging Fun-tronics piece to fit flush in its place.I will add some pics when photobucket acts right.there is a pic in the ablum that shows in nearly in place.

I had some side art made a few years ago for that box.

Did you use a spot weld bit to remove the stainless guard?

Yes I did. I've worked in the Body Shop business all my life so cutting spot welds  is noting new to me. I prefer the Blair Double-End Spotweld Cutter 13224 .There are a lot of different type but these seem to be the fastest cutting but are more prone to breakage.
 I did wind up removing the the backing plate so I could move it back just enough that the trim sits just behind the front panel. I added a spacer under it so it sits just a hair above the paint. I bolted it in place so I could fine tune it after paint.

Look great the only suggestion I would make is to paint the inside black so from the front the white isn't peaking through.  The bases sometimes will only be screwed on to the bottom of the main body..

Thats the way it was originally. I went ahead and done it this way until i could decide. See post/pic in the refinish section. I think you responded but I think you thought I was asking about color when in fact I was asking  about the way it was done. Im thinking about blacking out only right behind the slots as i like it not to be just a black hole back there once the cooling unit is in.This base is welded on.

All the bases I have seen have been completely black.  Do as you please it was only a suggestion

Jared, I hope you didn't take my post wrong! I didn't mean it like that. I do appreciate the feedback and was just hopeing that others would chime in on  if they've seen other sliders painted this way. I've looked at a lot of pics and I suspected that the original painter of mine was just being lazy that day.

 I used 3M Panel bond 08115. We use it in the body shop. Grind paint off liner at attachment points.  Then apply this to the bare metal.Smear it around to cover all bare metal . The down side to this stuff is a long cure time but its forever once cured.

Thanks for the product info I'll be sure to pick some up .  I have lines to attach back on to a finished tank liner.  I had a member refinish my compressor however without any pictures or information I was waiting for something like this thanks! 

You can also use 3m 08116 . You do have to have a a special aplicator  gun for these.

Thanks guys. Coming from yall that means alot. Just waiting on the chrome to come back and a few odd and ends. I've gotta design a instruction decal for the penny changer coin mechs.

 Almost Done!! I ordered the wrong coin entry plate so I've got to reorder Monday .  :darn:. I let  it run 2 weeks straight (about half full of drinks )and there's a little ice  on the bottom. Is that normal?

That changer on it looks awesome.

 Yea I really like it. I love the mechanical design of it . It works just like  slot machine payout slides. I was worried it would look weird. That's why I went gloss black instead of textured. I just thought it would be to much textured. Thanks to Slider- Bob for hooking me up with it. I would have never known what was originally in the holes in my cabinet if it wasn't for him.

Regarding your question on icing up, I've seen frost on inside tub and shelf, but never water that froze. May depend on humidity in your area, or the cycle time between off/on. I'm sure others more refrigeration experience can chime in with their thoughts.

I get frost and ice inside my slider every summer too,,, probably cause I'm in it ALOT Getting ANOTHER BEER... I wouldn't be too concerned , as its just because lots of damp air gets In there everytime you open it and it's gotta condense somewhere...
make sure your drain is open and machine angled enough to allow it to drain... Also as Slider Bob pointed out, make sure your "cycling" times are spread out enough where it has time to defrost and maybe drain a bit...

The way I understand these boxes is they are cold wall insulated and have to be unplugged a few times throughout the year to "de-frost".  They are NOT "frost free".

Product goes in warm so as stated you will get condensation, moisture, etc.in the tub liner.   Checking the "cut in, and "cut out" of the thermostat in a very good idea.   If it's running to long than that might be a factor ...
