Title: 1953 VENDO V-39 VALUE
Post by: zero250 on December 25, 2015, 08:59:42 pm
Hello!..........a guy near me in west virginia is selling his 1953 Vendo V-39.........he says it is original and working and he picked it up on the loading dock behind the west virginia hardware store where it was last in revenue service in 1972.........I went and looked at it and I have verified that it still cools.............it looks like it was always kept inside ( out of the weather ) since new..........it has a couple of scratches on the door and the lock is missing, but it is complete with no rust, a good drum, and the coin mechanism is still working ( dimes AND nickels )..............he want $1400 for it and seem pretty firm at that price and says he is in no rush to sell it...........I will include some pictures when I figure out how to post them on this site...........I seem to think that this price / condition / proximity ratio is close to correct money...........Do you experts think he is out-of-line at that price?...........let me know.......thanks!

Welcome to the site

If the machine is in great original condition, working etc... then I don't think 1400 is out of line.... although if you went there with say 1200 cash in hand, he might just sell it.

The 39 is a VERY common machine, and could be had for less if you looked around.  Typically a nice original 39 machine goes for 800 to 1200 (US).
BUT it depends on where you live, and how many 39's pop up for sale etc... it's a supply vs demand vs amount of buyers in your area etc...

We all want machines for as little as possible... but when you see one you like, go for it.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the site.  The first rule of thumb: What do you want to use it for?
The 39 is nice looking but is still a single-vend. It vends 6 oz Coke bottles........... ONLY!
No orange, no root beer, no water bottles or beer! In no time, those 6 or 8 oz Coke bottles become very boring!
(There are other model Coke machines vend all the above).
A lot of folks get caught up in the nostalgia and forget that an antique is only good if you can use it.

Anyways like Ed stated, there were quite a few 39's produced so the seller doesn't have anything that you
couldn't find for less money elsewhere.  In my area a nice original 39 is worth $1200.00 so he is not too overpriced.

In the southwest I had a difficult time getting $700 for a very nice original 39.

I paid $500 for one in similar shape in Ohio and flipped it for $1500 in Michigan, but that was unusually high IMO.

I'm not a big fan of the v39, so I wouldn't pay more than $800, and hope to flip it for $1000-1200.

Good luck!

Yes, it all depends what your plans for it is? If you just want a machine to display then yes, but agree, no more then $1,200. If you plan on selling for a profit then there will be no room. If you plan to have it restored, probably too nice to restore and if you did you would be upside down in it.

It's a early version 39, all red with the ice cold embossed on the bottom. Later version, no ice cold embossed but red with a white top. The later model is probably more desirable only because it has the white top.

Good luck.

I took my vendo 39 parts door and made a wall display for the garage.

There's a Vendo 39 a couple hours from me if anyone is looking. Paint is not pretty. Cord is shot so can't test cooling. Seems complete. Lady wants $500 and won't budge. Contact me if interested.
