Title: New Pickup
Post by: Jcarter168 on October 11, 2015, 10:47:09 pm
Picked this up tonight.   Now that I get it home, I'm not really sure why.  Thoughts?  Like it?  Hate it?

I thought the Peter Max sign was kind of interesting and it had a unique look, but now that I get it next to my 60's machines, the wood grain is really bothering me.

Should I peel the wood grain or leave it?

On the good side, machine is clean, solid and working.

The Peter Max signs are worth a few bucks alone, I see them go for $150-300 once in a while.  It's a neat machine, but you're right I would get rid of the wood grain.  If you're lucky, it's painted white like the rest of the machine under and with a little elbow grease and a lot of Goo-Gone it'll come out nice.  I have had a couple of Cavalier machines with black primer under, so hopefully that's not the case.

So I have 3 votes to remove the wood grain.  Are there any PRO wood grain view points out there?

From what I can tell it looks like it MAY have white paint under the wood grain.

If you don't like it a hair dryer and going slow might get it off in one piece. Crappy woodgrain contact paper is still made so if someone must they could put it back. Very cool light up Marx. have the same sunrise decal on one of the Selectivends.

I'm going to go against the grain and say keep the wood grain.

Personally, I like it on the machine and would keep it as is. With the Peter Max sign it just seems to work well unlike most woodgrain machines I have seen.

Leave it for a bit and see if you like it. If you find yourself growing to hate it you have plenty of how to on taking it off.

I vote to keep it, if you like original stuff.
We had a few of those in the seventies just like that. People would scratch that up on location, but yours looks to be in decent shape.

That is a uniquely 60's design on that sign, although it was not created by Peter Max.   It was 'inspired by' his work but he did not actually create the design.

I vote to KEEP the woodgrain! It's so original and clean looking and seventies.
It is what it is!
