Title: Well I guess you can glue glass - Shout out to Hernon
Post by: BrianS on July 17, 2015, 11:43:54 pm
So I posted a couple weeks ago looking for some insight from anyone on repairing a broken glass clockface.

After a lot of online reading, watching various youtube videos, and looking through as much manufacture product info that could find, I came to the conclusion that there are just way too many glue/adhesive options out there for the average person to choose from.  So I thought I would take a shot on asking a couple manufacturers.  I sent an email to customer service at Loctite and Hernon, told them what I was trying to do, and asked their advice on product selection.  Figured it was a bit of a long shot that I would hear back.  To my surprise, I got an email back from Hernon the next morning.  They not only recommended their Ultrabond 740 UV cured adhesive, but they also said that they would send me a free sample to complete the project.  I sent them my address, paid for shipping, and a couple days later the sample showed up.  Its actually enough that I should be set for life in UV glue.

This is cool stuff.  Put a thin layer on one side, matched up the two halves, and wiped up the excess.  Let it sit with a UV light on it for a while and its solid as a rock.  As expected, you can still see the crack, but it is definitely not as prevalent and I like that the glass won't shift in its frame any longer.  I have to recommend it.

Anyway, just wanted to give credit to Hernon for their assistance and response.  Thumbs up on their UV glue and two thumbs up on their customer service.

You can still see it, but it looks much better!
