Title: wiring help Post by: ld26 on July 17, 2015, 07:02:14 pm Having some issues with my 55 slider. When I first got it home i plugged it in and it fired up fine and started cooling, but everytime I touched the thermostat the fuse would blow. Thought I could fix it with a new thermostat and plug.
I have the new thermostat hooked up and still have the same issue. If I turn the thermostat to off and plug it in the compressor fires up fine and cools, but if I turn the thermostat dial it blows the fuse again. Any thoughts on what is going wrong here? Thanks Title: Re: wiring help Post by: tkaz on July 17, 2015, 09:07:24 pm It should only be hooked up to the black (hot) wire in series, not the white neutral as well. I don't have the wiring diagram for a 55, but that white wire should not be there.
Title: Re: wiring help Post by: Troy S on July 17, 2015, 09:20:04 pm tkaz is right. The themostat acts just like single pole switch for a light. Power in to the stat (black) with the power going out of the stat (black) to the compressor and fan, neutral wire just spliced thru.

next question, when I have the stat set to off (0) the compressor still runs, is that normal? I'm wondering if I fried the stat with my bad wiring... |
