Title: Re-chroming question? Post by: collecture on July 14, 2015, 03:37:52 pm With this last machine purchase of mine, all of the chrome parts had already been re-chromed. The coin entry bezel is supposed to say Westinghouse, but the lettering is almost non-existent. I tried to capture it in a pic.
I can certainly understand why the logo is missing too. Even on my original bezel, the Westy lettering is not very deep! I am sure you all have had this chroming disappointment at one time or another. So I was thinking - what pro-active measure could be taken? What if you were to take a Dremel and somehow "router" or "etch/engrave" out the lettering a little making it deeper? Good idea?? Bad idea?? How hard would it be to keep crisp lines do you think? Obviously don't test it out on a VMC bezel. Thoughts? Title: Re: Re-chroming question? Post by: Eric on July 14, 2015, 05:01:16 pm I think they take the original and strip it down to the cast metal.. then some then clean/buff that.. then when they chrome maybe the copper
may have been to thick or the chrome may have been too thick filling in the debossing... then they buff it again, sometimes wearing it down even more.. Don't know if it can be rechromed may have to find someone who chromes to answer that question. Maybe they could re-strip it to see how it looks. I would think trying to deepen the letters would be really hard. |
