Looks like a generic VMC 81 and an 81D.

Overpriced...I realize that it only takes one buyer, but I will be shocked if that buyer shows up for what I think is full retail on both machines. I would think they might be better off separating the pair and asking full retail...I also think they would realize better prices that way...just my two cents from my experience selling machines.

These belong to Ezra here on site he sent me a message saying he decided to list them . I decided not to purchase the VMC generic and let the next man get it.

Agreed on selling them separate, I don't understand.  Didn't 2 people on forum want the generic?  What happened?

I didn't realize these were Ezra's machines...but yes, at least two people wanted the generic. I'm not sure they would buy both machines, let alone a generic for $3500....the most I've seen a generic in that condition go for is $2800. I think if he's patient he could get $3000, but I would be surprised if he got $3500. At a certain point, you would just cut up a Coke 81 and not have the VMC stamped square area at the bottom...but even that could be fixed.

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to sell their machines because we all have what works for us but the only way I would ever group 2 machines if one was a dog. One would have to buy that one to get the good one. When selling 2 collectible machines there is no advantage, it can only hurt you. Unless you offer someone a nice savings but then you are only shooting yourself in the foot because you are discounting something that might not need to be discounted if sold by itself. But then again I'm just a rookie so just ignore me.  :laugh:

Thank you for your input on what you believe fair market value is for the machines.  My price reflects my views after taking into consideration all the time I put into searching craigslist throughout the day every day, newspapers classifieds, cold calling old leads, etc. I want to be properly compensated for time.  

I value my experience as priceless.

I think it's good for everyone here when a soda machine is sold regardless if it's overpriced or under priced. It just means that our hobby is doing well and people do have an interest. I love this stuff and I would probably do most of it for free if I could. I think we are all here for different reasons. Some of us are restores, some of us are collectors, and some of us are here to make a few bucks. Regardless it doesn't matter to me. I have just personally always have had a passion for this stuff and if I can make a couple of bucks along the way I guess that's even better.

I remember when I first started out in my job,which is all about experience, my mentor gave me just one piece of advice. He said there will always be someone that will try and tell you what to do or how to do something. never be rude to them. Always take onboard what they say, smile and thank them and then do what you think is right. What he was actually saying was don't upset people because you never know when you might actually need to go to them again.

On this occasion people are offering advice, based on years of experience about how to sell two desirable machines to maximise the best out of them. if the seller decides that they want to continue with the way they are selling then good luck to them. But don't burn bridges in the process or even worse not back down through fear of losing face.
