Title: VMC-44 Bottle Stack Post by: jholmgren on April 05, 2015, 07:07:28 pm I spent a fair part of the day taking the bottle stack and vending mech apart on my 44.
I'm not going to do a write up on it because I don't think there is anything too tricky about it. Just take a lot of pictures... more than you think you need ... and from different angles. Many times I've run into something that I forgot to document and have found the answer off to the side of a picture of another part. It's all cleaned and most of the parts are painted, just waiting on them to dry before I start putting it back together. I didn't paint some of the moving parts, just gave them a really good cleaning. After I get it back together I'll post some before/during/after pictures. Next weekend I need to finish painting the tub and the compressor housing in the main shell. After that - I think I can start putting it back together! Question Is there a recommended grease for the moving parts? I hit them with brake-kleen and an old toothbrush to dissolve the peanut-butter looking 50 year-old grease that was on everything so I need to re-grease it when I put it back together. I use ultra slick brake lube. It stands up well in cold climates. Made sure you lube the rockers well. Let me know if have any questions along the way, I've restored lots of 44's. Cheers. The rockers... those are the rotating parts at the bottom of the stack that allow the bottle to pass through when they turn?

If so... green (disc) or purple (ceramic)? Title: Re: VMC-44 Bottle Stack Post by: jholmgren on April 12, 2015, 12:23:31 pm Bottle stack is all done!
I tore it apart, cleaned and degreased it, painted it, applied new grease (thanks for the tip Shane!) and replaced all the clutch-head screws with stainless steel. I also thought I would dress it up a bit by painting the rockers and the cover plate gloss red. Soon time to put it back into the machine! Before and after pics: |
