Title: Rare cooler- P.E.M. B
Post by: cokecolaman on March 24, 2015, 09:58:24 pm
I responded to a Craigslist ad for a slider and found out the guy had this cooler he was also looking to sell...needless to say, I left the slider behind and picked this up. It's embossed on three sides. You can find out more about it on page 307 of Jeff Walter's book ( thanks to Jared for findng it in the book for me).

Nice... Everything including the bottles are embossed on that.... Wonder if that company embossed any other brand.
Are you going to restore it or leave it original/as is... looks to be in pretty good shape.

All the years I have scanned that book and never noticed that. Very rare indeed!
We all know how that embossing pops when restored, but this cooler is nicer than the one in Jeff's book. Tough call.
Interesting that with so few of these coolers made, this one has a different door latch system than the one in the book.

If I keep it, I would leave it alone...it's still got enough color to look good. The inside liner has some surface rust, but nothing too bad. The book has the correct measurements :  32" high by 37.5" wide by 27" deep.

Wow, the entire storage compartment is galvanized and insulated. Could it be for storing blocks of ice?
Are there 2 drains?

As sweet as it would look restored, I would leave it as is. Maybe a little Rust Mort to clean it up a bit. There is still enough color there, would be a little shameful to put sandpaper to it.

Well, I didn't find this cooler, I just paid for the cooler lol.
Dealing with Ron was easy as pie, and he helped me out with shipping etc....  Thanks again Ron!

just posting a pic of it before I decide what to do with it.  It does have a nice patina wear to it, so I might just keep it as is.... but I have this dream of what it would look like all shiney and new with the embossed letters "Popping" a nice resto.

Others have noticed that in Jeff Walters book there are two latches on each side... where this one just has the one.  BUT if you look closely in the book picture,  there are holes under the L for what I think is the original single latch, and if you look at this cooler, it has the 2 holes for the handle (missing) that is shown in the book.

But like Vendos, who knows.... I guess it depends on who was on the line that day on latch / handle detail lol

Well, each time I think I'm done, something like this happens!

Thanks again Ron (Cokecolaman)  This one is not leaving Canada on my watch lol

Ed

Awesome cooler.. Congrats on the purchase... I'm torn on restoring... maybe clean and
polish it up first to see how it looks that way. It's right there at the crossroad of restoring and leaving as is.
Wonder what else that company made in embossed coolers... what a small brand to do.. gotta be others out there.
Great Cooler! :happydrinkers:
