Title: VMC 33 Key 'VMC 51
Post by: Gmari2 on February 06, 2015, 09:07:16 pm
A very original but very dirty VMC 33-D followed me home yesterday.  The lock face is original with the 'VMC 51' imprint.  I really don't want to drill it out, so if any one can help me source out a key, I'd appreciate it.   Fun tropics was closed by the time I called and i do not know what key manufacturer fits these.  Can anyone provide any advice?
Thanks,
George in Jersey

Hi George,

I don't believe Fun-Tronics has that particular key.  My VMC-44 has the same lock.

I'm lucky that mine came with the original key, but they are to my untrained eye a pretty unusual type of key.

I'm thinking of hitting up one of the locksmiths in town (real locksmith, not the machine at Home Despot) just to see if they might have a blank that can be used to make me a spare.  If I have any luck, I'll let you know.  Happy to send you a copy if I can get one made.

Jim

Here's what it looks like:

Hi george,

I just checked the key to my 33-d and it looks exactly like the one Jim has in the pictures but not the same number, congrats on the pick-up, can we see some pics?

Sorry guys - my local locksmith said no-dice.  They don't have any blanks that would fit. If they did they said their cutting tool would not do a small enough channel in the center of the key.  They suggested to drill it out and replace it.

My VMC 27 Deluxe has, a similar Bellock, code VMC 90 or 91, I can't remember at the moment at friends shop changing out the seat leather in the challenger. Bellock key blanks are the same has the Mills slot machine keys and Mills 47,98. Try finding somebody that restores Mills slot machine. I talk to a guy in California that retumbler and cuts keys. It is expensive, to retumbler the mills lock and cut 1 key was 120. Ouch. Check ebay from time to time the keys turns up, that is how I got my second key for my VMC 27.

Moondawg,
Of course you have the key I needed.  I just drilled it out figuring I'd never find one.  Now, do you have a tumbler to go with your key?  PM me please.  Gmari2@verizon.net

Didn't give it much time!
I do understand though. I can't usually wait a long time to get into my new machine!!

You got that right.  Patience isn't one of my virtues.
