Title: VMC Pepsi 110 Finished
Post by: Funtronics on November 04, 2014, 08:14:07 am
This is the VMC Pepsi 110 I bought from Brian about a year ago. As you can see from the before pictures it was a mess. It had a non working odd compressor in it. Missing the coin door and bezel. Most of the shelves were missing. All of the wood frame was shot. So while restoring this machine I made some new wood kits that are now for sale on our web sight. These 110's are a real treat to do.  :upside:

Wow, that 110 looks really sharp. As for 110's in general, I think they are a nice looking machine, but, in a regular house in with a regular ceiling, they look way too big for the house. I have only owned one and it looked huge. Plus I think they are made for left handed people. I also heard they were extremely difficult to restore. I would be curious to know the production numbers though compared to 81's They seem far harder to find than 81's.

According to production numbers published based on serial numbers issued

Vendo 110 1001-33955 = 32954 units made

Vendo 81 1001-36736 = 36736 units made...

Much closer production numbers than I would have thought. So who's stashing away all the 110's?

I think 110's were quicker to be scraped and / or put out of use because newer models were available that took up less space.

81's hung around a bit longer, and because they are a bit smaller (not too much) they were tucked away in a barn / garage / back room more so than the 110's were.
And because the 81's  were used longer (in my opinion) when it did come time to replace them, Coke, 7up etc... never took them back when they gave the gas station a new one as it was forgotten about or just not worth the expense to take them back (assuming it was given to them by the bottling company).  If they were outright owned by the sellers.. then it all holds true the same.... 81's were used longer and easier to tuck away.

If anyone else has an idea as to why there are not more 110s around, would like to hear your reasons

smallbox

Vendo made the Coke 110 small door and large door

VMC made embossed Pepsi, 7uP and Royal Crown in small door and Large door, (although I have never seen a 7up small door, I just assume they did) as well as a generic which they had in Dr Pepper.  My Generic 110 Canada Dry I belive to be 100% original, as I bought it from a member who had a story behind it.  As well, looking closely at the paint, it is the original paint all around, with no signs of ever being painted over (not to mention the decal is the only decal applied to the machine... meaning no fading, or hint of another decal underneath etc...)

Then Vendo and VMC made 6 case embossed reach in coolers (110 capacity) in the same above brands ....... although I don't think VMC made a generic reach in (someone can correct me on that, and would love to see a picture if one exists)
When I say reach in, it means a 110 cab. with no coin door... it was usually placed inside a store where someone opens the glass door and gets a drink, and would pay for it at the stores counter.

I think more 110's were scrapped out because the entire coin door assemblies were needed for 81's in the 1980's and 90's.

That could very well be the case... although then I would have to ask... what happened to the coin door assemblies on the 81's that they went missing?

Thrown away when some clueless people turn them into fridges. I guess

Good work Rod. I remember seeing that machine in person when I bought his Pepsi 81. Great to see it restored.

At least it had to be redone and not another nice original going down the drain prematurely.
