Aren't the drums aluminum?  Do you have any pics of the drum before you polished it up?  Looks great

Always love your work.  I am also curious about how the drums looked before hand as they fantastic now.

Great work Shane--as usual!  I too would be interested to hear what steps and what products you used on the drum.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

The front face of the drum is aluminum. I usually drill out the spot welds and separate the front face from the rest of the drum. Then I powder-coat the middle and back section. I also remove the counter weight and sandblast and powder-coat that as well.

Once the front face is removed from the rest of the drum, I sand it out with really fine sandpaper, then I wet sand it with even finer paper. Then I very carefully polished it on my buffing wheel. I also have a smaller drill attachment to get into the bottle holes and polish all the edges.

You have to be VERY CAREFUL polishing one of these wheels. If the polishing wheel gets caught it will go flying across the room and probably bend or warp. The key is to polish it very slowly and pay close attention to where the buffing wheel is headed.  Also, wear a face shield, and gloves/body protection.  Polishing is dangerous! I've dropped many "F" bombs while polishing lol.

Hope this helps.  Cheers, Shane

Looks great Shane! I have a soft spot for the all red machines - they are the originals!
Does nobody reproduce the Loading Instruction plate that mounts in the center of the drum or have you just not put it on yet?

I don't have the loading instructions on the drum in my machine, and it looks pretty original.  I have the loading instructions on a decal on the door liner.  Maybe this was added to the later machines?

Looks great!

This one didn't have the instruction plate. I don't know if all the 39's had them. I think just the later versions had them.. Not sure
