Title: Those pesty decals
Post by: genudoc on June 06, 2014, 10:23:24 am
Just purchased this 81
Good original condition
Any tips on how to remove decals without harming the paint ?

those 3 decals there are the older water release decals... wonder if very hot water would soften and loosen them.. would almost have to soak them though...
Or if you buff/polish that machine they might buff right off.

Though I gotta say I like the look though... I would leave them if it were mine but that's just me... kinda cool to see them
Nice machine.

I agree with Eric, they show some of the sales history of that machine.

Not that you asked but I would remove the 7up and leave the other two.  I had my 1990 Silverado painted a few months back.  My painter had a round drill attachment that looked just like pencil eraser material. He removed the chevrolet decal on the tailgate and it didn't even scratch the paint.  I was amazed how good it worked.

I agree.. I like them... it's an original machine, and this is just how they where used through the years... I'd leave it.

otherwise if you remove them, I can almost guarantee you'll have a different shade of red under them... and it will look worse with blotches of darker red.

Was that in an antique mall?.. Never see them in shops around here... Can't wait for the day I'm in one, turn an corner and there sits a Quikold cooler!

Nice looking machine, I like it with the decals as well, gives it some character, where you get it? I think we are in the same neck of the woods, I'm on long island...

Was spending the weekend in the Poconos
Looking through a throw away magazine and an ad for Jukebox classics in Hawley PA
It was 5 minutes away
Turns out it is John Johnston who used to have a cool shop in Brooklyn

I think it was divine intervention so how can I turn that down
