Title: Hey markito
Post by: Bob K on February 22, 2005, 08:35:37 am
Markito, I know you just bought a machine but there's a pretty cool Pepsi slant shelver from MN on ebay.  Opening bid is $50.00.  Has the "IN CANS" graphics with the can opener, which makes it a bit different.  Looks nice and small, too.

I don't know if you're strictly a COKE guy or not, just wanted to give you a heads up.  Just in case your wife was on the fence about kicking you out of the house :D .

It's a nice V77/Can, and with legs too!  I'd go for it!  :D

Bob,
So nice of you to think of me. I missed that one because I always do daily eBay searches of "Coke Machine", "Coca Machine" and "Vendo".

I have always been an "Only Coke" guy, but this model has me tempted. Though it's in my same state, it is actually 220 miles away from me and I still have to pick up the one I won last week and that one is coincidentally 220 miles the opposite direction!

But I may bid on it anyway. I have always wanted a machine with the cool can punch on it.

We'll see... and yes, I am so sleeping on all of your couches if I actually buy another one. She still doesn't know about my recent win. :p

It might not be so bad, but our garage is the smallest two-car garage on earth. We can barely fit both vehicles in there even when it is otherwise empty, so there really isn't room for machines. That's why I have been selling all of the snack vending machines on my eBay auction. If I had a third stall with a work area, then I could probably work on them in peace and show I could sell for a profit. I'm jealous of you guys with your large and workshop garages.

By the way, I feel so honored to have a thread named after me. Made my whole day! :)

Thanks again for looking out for me Bob. (Or is it contributing to my downfall?)

I am SO EXCITED!!!! As you know I have been selling (on eBay) a lot of modern vending machines I have had laying around forever and I have been making a good profit on them. My wife commented that I made over $1,000 in the past few days (all going to help our family's recent financial crisis) and that it is a shame that I will soon be out of vending machines to make a nice profit on!!

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?!?!?!?!

Later tonight I will slip in the part about how old Coke machines are really just vending machines and that I can continue making a profit by bringing home Coke machines!!!!  My prayers have possibly been answered! :) :) :)

Well... it is true. I paid for all the plumbing in my home by selling 3 Coke Westinghouse
Juniors, unrestored 2 with no lids .... I had $250 in all 3.
Had a rough 72 with only 4 shelves, no mech and the main coin door dented bought for $75 sold $750.... Both pre-eBay days... there's 2 stories you can tell her!

Mark,

Stay focused!
Eight days can seem like eternity... :;):

Well guys, those 8 days did seem like an eternity, but I'm happy to say that I won the Pepsi machine (my first non-Coke) and for only $50!!!

And since I am planning to drive up and get it myself (that will be two 9 hour driving days for machines in one week!!!!!) I won't have to pay for freight.

I wonder if I will drive past a "V77" highway sign on the trip up there?!?!

What a great deal. I plan to fix anything that needs it and then sell it again. I figure it didn't sell because it was WAY up north, way off the beaten path.

I'm still a Coke only fan, but the fact that it is a "Now in cans!" model and that it has the cool 3-D lighted Pepsi cap sign, I like it.

I sense a new "Markito's Pepsi fixer-upper..." thread coming on. :)

Thanks again for the heads-up Bob K.
I would have never found it if you hadn't shouted out, "Hey Markito!" :)

Great Score!!
I like the sign as well. Enough room to make an aquarium in there? You are going to be busy :-)

Kito, you know it could be a coke machine with some work. Take it to maaco with the 56 and change the sign.

Ooooh, now there's a great idea!
What sort of prep work would I have to do? Would I have to sand the whole thing down, etc? Or just wipe it to make sure it is clean?

Looks like too good condition of a machine to sand down and make coke.  That in 3-d sign is killer.  I've never seen one that says in cans.  I think a little cleaning and a couple coats of wax and this would be a real pretty machine.

I agree but if you aren't a pepsi fan why not paint it. Do you have an air compressor? If not sand it by hand. That is what I have always done untill I got my air compressor. It takes a long time but if there arent any dents just sand out any scratches and have them prime and paint it. It won't be 100% but i don't think you are looking for a restored machine just something that looks nice. I would keep that over the 56 because it is so different. Just go to a vinyl sign company and take the frame and have them make you a sign out of white plexiglass and red vinyl. It should only cost about $30 to have the sign made. But since Vendorlator didn't make Coke machines in the 60's it won't be correct but who cares. I think it would look really nice. Also the silver coin bezel that goes all the way across the coin door is anodized aluminum. I would take it to your local metal polishing company or to a motorcycle shop and have them strip the anodize off of it and have it polished. It would look great.

Not that you are looking for opinions, but I think it would be a shame to convert this one to Coke.  This is a rather unusual Pepsi machine with the "NEW IN CANS" graphics and all.  If it were me, I'd restore it AROUND that sign.  It's not something you see very often (I've never seen one).

Heck, get it working, clean it up and sell it for a profit.  Too special to convert - just my useless 2 cents of course...

kito, please post some pics of this machine when you can.

Bob

I agree with both of you, but I think in the end I will keep it Pepsi because of the cool original "Now in Cans!" sign.
I will clean it up, fix it up and sell it to buy another cool machine. At least that's what I'm thinking right now.
I hope to drive up North this coming Monday to get it.
I'll keep you all updated.

I have decided that I will for sure keep it just as it is, an original Pepsi machine. Mostly because though I don't like Pepsi stuff myself, I think I want it to stay just as it is, but cleaned and fixed up.

Plus, most importantly, because I don't want a can machine for myself in my home (I really only want bottle vending for some pop and mostly beer), I might as well improve the machine and then sell it to someone who actually enjoys and appreciates Pepsi.

But I do love the "Now in cans!" script, the 3-D cap sign and the little door that punctures the original cans.

So though in the long run I plan to sell it, I am very glad that I bought it.

I am making the long drive to pick it up on Wednesday.

Maybe I'll set up a poll question:  Will Markito part with the Pepsi V77 can vendor? :D

That machine looks like a fun little project.  I'd wager you get attached to it and hang on to it.

Pictures!!!  :)

Thanks. I will post photos late Wednesday night after I drive across the state and bring it home.
