Title: Popperette Part out Post by: SIGNGUY on May 20, 2014, 01:23:43 pm I have a friend who is thinking of parting out a popperette or selling as is.
The machine 90% complete, but missing the front bubble piece which we all know is a crucial part of the machine so he can't sell it complete as that part is near impossible to find. He wants 1800 for the machine as is... I told him considering the missing piece it might be better to part it out. so here is what he priced out the parts at .. if any interest contact me and if we get enough takers on the parts, we'll do that.. or if someone wants it for the 1800 as is let me know right away. Globe 450 Globe top 30 Stand 450 heater 350 Motor with gearing 250 Pump 150 Popcorn chute $50 Thermostat $50 Coin entry $25.00 Salt shaker holder 25.00 Rest of the unit with all switches etc and main Housing and Coin mech 250 Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: MoonDawg on May 20, 2014, 02:44:35 pm NOBODY can remake that glass? What a shame.
Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: jholmgren on May 20, 2014, 03:22:30 pm I'd bet someone could re-make that piece if they could find an original to make a pattern. Pretty amazing what you can do with 3D printers these days. Wouldn't be glass, but wouldn't cost a mint either.
Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: SIGNGUY on May 20, 2014, 04:46:10 pm Its not glass it's a thick clear plastic..
I looked into getting it made but the mold and minimum order made it cost prohibitive... $3000+ and didn't think the demand for that piece would be that great as would have to make 100 of them minimum. It's a shame as I had one spare at one time, and stupidly sold it, but it went to a member here to help him out complete a machine... oh well. we'll see if any takers on the parts... Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: Philip S on May 20, 2014, 05:54:20 pm I think the geometry could be created by anybody with some CAD skills. Then a forming mold could be CNC'd from the CAD file or it could also be grown with a 3D printer (I work in the additive manufacturing business and it can be costly). One you have a mold I think you could form some plexiglass over it with a little heat. I'm sure there would be a learning curve to get it right but just thought I would share my idea.

Just made some knee models there at a fraction of cost in US Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: Creighton on May 20, 2014, 11:37:12 pm John,
Was it molded plexie? Somebody post a pic and will see what can be done. Creighton Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: SIGNGUY on May 21, 2014, 08:23:17 am Yes sure with enough time, money and someone willing to "Loan" out the original I'm sure it could be made..
but at what cost and how many are needed , it just doesn't work out that way ... I'm not the only one that has looked into it and from all info we've heard , running into the same road blocks all the way around. any interest in parts? Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: doomedgame on May 21, 2014, 12:27:52 pm Not as bad as you think if you could get your hands on one or make a mold in cad or old school cast. There is a two part mix for clear plastic. Seen it done for truck tail light that there are no repops
Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: Larry on May 22, 2014, 08:39:29 am I actually have an extra plastic front piece. Unfortunately, it's not for sale. I have a red one and a green one. The green one is on my machine. The red one was a spare incase someone broke my green one.
Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: Jim on May 22, 2014, 05:04:40 pm Hey John or Larry,
Any suggestions for a replacement switch for the switch with the wire that has the wire activated by the 6-32 on the main cam...? I bought a lever switch that is a close replacement; however, it utilizes a blade for switching. I shortened the blade, soldered the wire from the old switch onto the blade but it has broken where it was soldered leading me to think this may occur again because the wire maybe hardened spring steel and I weakened it... Everything else seems to cycling correctly... I'll need to figure something for a more permanent solution... Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: MaineT on May 22, 2014, 07:27:36 pm A little late to this conversation, but its likely vacuum-forming or thermoforming. The mold can be made out of plywood, composite, aluminum or lots of other things. It could be worth 3d printing the mold and then having a vacuum former blast 3-5 off for a reasonable fee.
The money is the mold, the plastic isn't all that much. The rest is a set-up fee in a job shop, or one of those homemade jobs. THANKS ! ! !Title: Re: Popperette Part out Post by: zadd on May 22, 2014, 08:24:26 pm I don't remember exactly what I did on mine but I think all I did was remove the wire and put it facing the other direction . I found some vintage nos switches on eBay .
