Title: Shipping questions Post by: racerx45 on February 08, 2005, 09:50:26 pm I know shipping has come up before but I have not been able to find the answers to my question in the search so here goes:
Dealing with dispensers I don’t usually have a need for a shipping company beyond UPS, Fed-Ex or the U.S. Post Office but have my eye on one that would need a shipping company. I have seen a post here with good things to say about DHL and one about a guy that is a mover of collectibles and antiques. What I need is a shipper that can pick up and crate or pallet a 500 pound machine and then deliver it from the east coast to the west coast. Any suggestions? I've used DHL to ship small Items, but they are a bit of a pain, at least here in Flint, MI. they never have any shipping materials, Boxes, packing...for large items I use Fedexfreight I drop off the machine, the put it on a pallet & shrink wrap it... I supply the tie-down (ratchet straps), I ship it terminal to terminal, which is quite inexpensive, I've also heard good things about Forward air (terminal to termnal shipping to most major airports), but again , their website stinks & you can't get a straight answer out of anybody. (unless you're shipping a Harley, that is) I've heard of people using NorthAmerican vanlines moving co., but I've never gotten a straight answer out of anyone on cost (from the Company) or even how to set up a pickup/dropoff & when I talk to them on the phone, they dodge the issue when I ask about shipping a vending machine... oh and here's a tip...NEVER tell the shipper it's an "antique" or "collectable" soda-machine, they won't accept it. only tell them it's a "vending machine" & Don't forget insurance... Title: Shipping questions Post by: on February 08, 2005, 11:43:04 pm Just today I was wondering what the average shipping price to Minnesota would be for a $400-$500 machine.
Title: Shipping questions Post by: sodaworks on February 08, 2005, 11:50:05 pm Hello Racerx,
I normally use Forward Air, but you will have to crate and deliver the machine to their nearest terminal. I usually pay approx. 200.00 from east to west coast, as well as from canada. Terry Title: Shipping questions Post by: loman4ec on February 09, 2005, 09:29:47 am I just spoke to NorthAmerican vanlines and they want 271 from weisconsin to Cincinnati. Door to door. Not bad.
Title: Shipping questions Post by: Kevin C on February 09, 2005, 09:59:04 am Hello
I am using R & L shipping lines for the new machine being shipped to me & I just got quote for shipping the V56 from Charleston to Markito in the frozen tundra (Min) for $225. I will report back when I get the final cost of shipping for my new machine. Let's see how close the shipping quote is to the final price. Kevin Title: Shipping questions Post by: on February 09, 2005, 10:05:28 am I'm actually in Minnesota, but then the "Mich" was probably just a typo.

Sorry. I just remembered that you were up there in the frozen tundra of the upper midwest. The shipping cost is all based on total weight & then pick-up/delivery locations. The cost for the shipper is adjusted based on picking up at a loading dock or off the ground at your home. I have seen quotes for $150 – $200 for shipping a machine. I bought a slider from an auction house near KC, MO. I have quotes from UPS for $379.00 (to the terminal). I also have 377.00 from Craters and Freighters to my door. Is this high or about right? Forward Air has terminals at both ends for me…but website (as mentioned is useless). Any thoughts you …uh…shipmates… Thanks Jeff Title: Shipping questions Post by: Eric on April 06, 2005, 09:18:47 pm I used FedEx Freight to ship my 7up junior (120 lbs.) from ND to Missouri for $142.00 But they are
cheaper if you ship business to a business not to a residential.... Also hear Bus lines are cheap! I guess they just strap them inside near the back.... Give one of them a call. Eric Title: Shipping questions Post by: Eric on April 06, 2005, 09:20:58 pm I forgot to add that the seller built a crate for $50... still cheaper than me driving my gas drink'n truck there
and back would have been a two day trip and with gas prices..... Title: Shipping questions Post by: glassbottlesrule on April 06, 2005, 09:21:14 pm I only have experience with Foward Air. Then seem to be the cheapest and have not destroyed anything yet. Of course you have to live close to an airport that has one of their terminals to make it worthwhile.
Title: Shipping questions Post by: loman4ec on April 06, 2005, 09:48:10 pm I called Forwar Air a few days ago to check on creating an account with them. They said that you do have to have an account to ship and the require you to be a business and pass a credit check. Well that isn't a problem but they require you to have a minimum of $10,000 in the account provided for the credit check, and after 6 months of not shipping with them your account is void and you have to start over again. I explained that other companies were not like that and she suggested that I go to another company then. I have had great experiences with them when Glen has shipped things to me but I couldn't believe their strict policies and rudeness.
Title: Shipping questions Post by: Bob K on April 07, 2005, 07:33:32 am Steve,
I think you are speaking of Eric at Machinemovers.com. I've used him a few times. He just picked up one of Josh's machines for me, which should be arriving soon. I like his service as he doesn't require palleting or shrink wrapping. He specializes in jukes, soda machines, etc. Plus when you call you get him personally, not a clerk in the office. It was $300.00 from Josh in Ohio to me in MA door to door (he usually brings the machines right into my basement :P ). His ETA's can swing wildly as he gets busy, but he's a great guy. His site is machinemovers.com. You can reach him at 928 279 4224. Bob Title: Shipping questions Post by: loman4ec on April 07, 2005, 08:07:05 am When he came to get the machine I was amazed at how friendly he was. I asked him about cost and he said $300 is a good estimate for most jobs. But yes it might take a while. I asked him about picking up the gullwing in Colorado and he said it could be up to two months, but that is only because he is located in the west and doesn't plan on being in Ohio again soon.
Title: Shipping questions Post by: MoonDawg on April 07, 2005, 12:01:39 pm Eric just picked up a machine from my shop last month, now he's in your territory.
I asked him if he was going to park his trailer at Chigagoland show, for hire. He usually does, but this year he decided he can't get a full enough load. This site could keep him pretty busy. Group discount LOL Title: Shipping questions Post by: Bob K on April 07, 2005, 12:27:57 pm I just got off the phone with Eric. He made it all the way from the West Coast, picked up the machine at Josh's place, got as close as New Jersey (I'm in MA), and just told me he's run out of time and has to head to the show in Chicago - so he can't deliver my machine! . It's just the way he works - I knew that going in.
The original estimate was four weeks. Josh, when was that - back in February? He's a great guy and your machines will be in good hands - but do not use Eric if you want a firm delivery deadline. I'm in absolutely no rush so it's fine with me. Bob |
