Okay so I had a sick friend who was going to sale me his gas pump last year but I was never able to make the long 14 hour road trip to get it. We agreed at a price of $200 because at the time I thought the pump was worth $400 and the fuel cost would be $200. The only reason I was willing to put in what I thought was full value is because he needed the money for his illness. He has since passed away and I would like to get the pump from his family and restore it dedicated to him. So my question is am I wrong about the value of the pump? Its an Erie 743 In Fair condition. I would say B condition maybe C+. Globe is mission or did not have one. It has an old round Kendell Polly Power sticker on the panels. If I can get it to work I'll post pictures tomorrow.

without pictures its hard to say but if its in the condition you describe then $400 is in the ballpark.  A lot of this stuff is also dependent on location, values here in the New York Metro area are generally quite a bit higher than in the Midwest for instance. 

If you aren't that knowledgeable about pumps beware of missing parts, the cost adds up quickly and for a pump like this finding them may be very difficult.  More common pumps have reproduction parts readily available, in my experience for Erie pumps you need to find original parts.

Okay here are the photos. I'm thinking I could retrofit a repop globe. It would be a custom design anyway. Thanks for the help.

I have never owned or seen that style pump before, but just looking at the basic design, I wouldn't think it would be something super rare. SO my estimation based on average pump prices around me , you have a 350-450 pump there.. so I think you are buying it right..

from the pictures it needs no retrofitting for a globe, it already has a socket for the bulb, just remove the round globe cover on the top and buy a globe holder, should mount to the top piece of the pump with a few screws and the globe is done. The holder is $20.

I've been looking for a book for these, would you mind sharing the one you're using?

this is the one most people use, I don't think a price guide for pumps is all that necessary, prices are usually pretty similar for each era of pump unless you happen to find something super rare

agreed the gas pump book is really only good for identifying the super Rare earlier style pumps... These are the type of pumps that when you see them , you'll know they are not your norm and will be worth more than your average pump..

$137? For that it better include an original Sinclair  globe

I think they stopped printing these, they sell over on oldgas pretty high on a consistent basis, thus the high ebay price

Any how off are those values? They seem pretty high for an old book. I would think the hobby is hotter now more then ever.
