Hello

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Coca-Cola Vendo 63 Vending Machine. It is in pretty good shape.

What do you think is a fair price ?

Need to see the inside.  Looks to be in great shape.  If the inside is as clean as the outside I would say $500-$700

Machine appears to be restored, or at least painted. I would agree with what little we have start at about $500 or so.

It is close to where I live. So I could pick up. Not have to worry about shipping.

Picture is too small to see any detail.  I would go for it if I were you. Can't beat a V-63 for an everyday use machine.  If you dont like the wood grain on the door you could always remove it to give the machine a more vintage look. I have two V-63's from the early 60's.  Let us know if you get it.

How much is the seller asking for the machine?

Well he is looking for $1450. I think it's a little on the high side.

I was thinking along the same lines as Cola62 $800 max.

      Anybody that paints a machine and doesn't even mask off the bottle door springs is taking shortcuts.       Buyer beware!

600 tops on a nice clean one if you really wanted it.

I'd say $6-700 tops and I agree with Moondawg, details aren't there in that one pic.  I'm not sure about the trim, looks like they just painted it with silver/grey paint.  I'd prefer to see some form of chrome trim, even if it's the cheap automotive stuff I have seen used on a few square tops.

I have decided to pass on it. He'll half the fun is the hunt.

I apologize for being "late to the party". IMO, Good choice to wait. I'm not sure where you're located, and I'm not an expert in value on the V63 by any means. I do see them pop up on craigslist some though, they're not impossible to find by any means. With a little patience, I think you will ultimately find a much better balance of price and original condition.

If you don't mind me asking, are you set on a Coca-Cola branded machine, or would you consider other brands?

That one is in really good shape but 1300?

       We seem to be missing the point here. Yes, a 63 can be bought for $500.00 anywhere.

        What he is adding is the reconditioning. Calculate bodywork and paint, decals, lighted sign, metal polishing etc., stuff that we here at SMC often do when we buy the common 63.  But MOST people don't want to do this themselves, and would rather buy the package, $1200.00 is reasonable.

        While I can applaud his efforts, he made the mistake of painting it the original color. White does not sell a Coke machine, nor does the woodgrain. E-bay is good exposure but shipping will kill most buyers, he will only sell it locally if it sells.

         Square corner machines have never been sought out before, collectors have long been competing for only the antiques. But it's the average Joe who has never been exposed to pulling a cold bottle out of a machine that is the best target market. I have found that by lending a nice looking machine out to a party, it has created more excitement and potential customers than any Craigslist ad could ever do.

Good points.  You would spend that much or more to refurbish that machine.  I also think older V-63s are becoming more collectible since 81's are hard to come by at a reasonable price.  You have to consider that the first 63's came out over 50 years ago.  That's getting up there as far as vintage goes.  Believe it or not I prefer an early 60's V-63 over an 81. Because that is what I remember using as a kid.  The 81's were before my time. Now as far as an investment of course I would pick an 81. I can tell you you don't see as many early 63's come up for sell as you did a few years back which makes me believe they are becoming more collectible. Again I am talking about pre 1970 machines.

I have to give it too you. I missed the reconditioned in the ad. I just look at the Picts and price.
A decent paint job alone is easily $1000.

The machine is worth the price. Still outta my spending range, but oh well.

Some very excellent points. I sure am learning a great deal on here. Price is kinda out of my range right now. Although it does catch your eye.

       Now I would be a buyer for this machine if it was in my area, but most people would run.

       Glad you started this thread, it points out so many factors that determine value other than just the model number.

             (I too can only pull thumbnail photo's off e-bay, can someone else please post a pic of this jewel)?

I guess it comes down to resources, what you have and what you're willing to put into something.

One advantage of buying one like that, you could sort of slow-walk the restoration as time and/or funding become available. Of course, one has to have space as well. Sometimes that may be a bigger problem than funding.
