Title: Chicago coin op show
Post by: MaineT on November 14, 2013, 09:14:05 am
Sitting with my buddy waiting for my connecting flight arriving just before noon. Does anyone know how far the airport is from the convention center?

Anyone taken taxi for that ride? Trying to plan the cost.

Any help is appreciated.

It's quite a distance from either airport, I rented a car. Some nice highway there but take toll money!

Just checked on at the hotel. It's about an hour drive from Midway.

I'm going in search of food. If anyone else is here and want to meet up, call or text me:

Kinda wish I coulda went. I love coin operated stuff, vendors in particular. Even if I could afford the trip, I don't think I'd want to brave a jaunt through the Greater Chicago area.

I bet they have some neat stuff.

Just out of curiosity, would this be the place?

Hey Tim,
We are all still recovering from the 4:00 am start.  Way too many $200 RC 81's and $100 Stoner Theaters too count.

Just kidding of course, no unbelievable deals in my opinion. Some good prices but the variety of "stuff" is pretty awesome to see.

I got a nice old parking meter, but I can't resize the pic on my phone. You'll see a lot of chatter as folks start getting back home.

I have pictures........but not the ones you would like to see.  :tounge:

I did not go to the show, but I did have the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with some members last night.  It's been becoming a tradition now to have members come over and go out for some pizza.  I try to find a place that isn't a chain that serves food Chicago style.  This is from Gulliver's which is a good distance from the show.  Anyway, I know the drive to get by me is long, but I hope you all enjoyed the food.  MainT's friend Justin, Jason, I'm horrible with names, flipped the bill which was very very nice of him.  Afterwards, we go to my house and drink beers, listen to some tunes, play some games, and eat some popcorn.  Thanks to all who came.  I really enjoy having people coming over who will play the machines.  See you next year.

Not a great picture, but it's from left to right, Kbareit, jholmgren, slider-bob, lstransam, MaineT, Tim's friend whose name begins with a J, and my wife Kim.

Sounds like a great time Larry (and great pizza as well). Is Istram a misprint for Ltransam? It looks like Leonard, but I thought Bob said he was in the hospital. If so, glad he was able to make it. I'm going to have to make it sometime just so I can hang with you guys and see your games

Yes it was a misprint.  I fixed it.  Leonard looked good.  As you can see he was well enough to eat in the picture.  I'm curious as to what was the coolest thing that people found.  I heard that our founder Jim found a Stoner Gum machine in the original box.

I was really lax in taking pics, next year I'll bring my SLR and get a bunch.

I only had my iPhone, and cell phone battery life was precious so I only got a pic of Slider-Bob and a couple of other folks unloading Brian's trailer around 4:30 am on Friday.  The scene was really eerie.  As soon as the ramp came down, people started coming out of the darkness with flashlights and pawing through everything.  It was like a scene from a zombie movie, instead of braaaaiinnnss   it was sliiiiiiiiderrrrrsss.

I also got a pic of the working Miller 45B parking meter I picked up.  12 minutes for a penny, or an hour for a nickel!

What a great time I'm having here. It was nice to meet all of you. A big thanks to Brian for offering to deliver me my purchases. I'm still here and just finished walking the floor again in search of anything I might have missed. Found some other cool items but nothing I had to have. Here's a pic of a fresh hot nut machine I picked up. Unfortunately no Mill's 45 but still some great finds.

I ve seen one of these locally- asking $750....is that reasonable for this machine? I've never seen one in person...just eBay or Craigslist.

From what I've seen that is around the going rate. It does add more value if it has a base and the cup holder. There's one on ebay right now for 860.00 with 5 days to go. I also saw a double one with no lighted sign, cup holder or base sell for 550.00 here at the show. It is a neat machine with the blinking light it really stand's out.

I have one of those Ajax vendors, with cup holder. They look lovely all lit up. The coin mechs are reversible so you can have 5 or 10 cents or a mixture of both.
