Title: My First Gamewell Fire Alarm Box
Post by: SodaShopNick on September 05, 2013, 08:00:59 pm
While I have always thought these are cool I have never seen one available.  That is until this past weekend where I saw one sitting on the floor at an antique shop.  When I tried to pick it up to look at it I knew why it was left on the floor!!!  It is in great shape, but does not have a key.  I hope it has it guts inside.   Does anyone know how to get a key?  I reached out to someone on this link http://autotechfire.com/ and am just pending a response, but if anyone has any other thoughts I would appreciate it.

If it's that heavy, the guts are inside.  You're missing the pull down door, but they show up on Ebay. Not sure on the key, mine didn't have one, so I didn't bother replacing it. Yet

Congrats on the find.

Hi Kilroy,

Thanks for the response.  Do you by chance know what the pull down looks like.  The actual pull down is there (at least the frame), just missing the piece that slides inside....I think.

You can open it with a paper clip

MCarter,

Interesting.  I tried a bobby pin, but no luck.  I will try a paperclip and see if that works.  Thanks!!

Hope this helps. The later model had a rectangular door, not as ornate. Not sure if it would fit.

i searched Ebay for the pics

I would be interested to know if the paper clip works; I could then get mine open

Those are cool little boxes.  Looks like I'll have to add another item to the "gotta have one" list

Thanks guys for all the help and comments.  I did try to use a paperclip, but no luck.  That is not to say it does not work as it could be user error....  .  I am working with a guy at http://autotechfire.com/  and he is telling me mine is a early 1920's version made out of cast iron with brass hinges.  He also might be able to provide me a key.  If he does I will let everyone know.

I've bought parts form Autotechfire for my box. You are in good hands, they were super helpful
