Title: Westinghouse chest Post by: mack65az on August 31, 2013, 09:49:50 am Need a little help here. I don't know much about anything outside of Ideals. I'm going to look at this today. he says it's all there. Wants $700. Seems high to me but idk.
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: Kaleid20 on August 31, 2013, 09:54:20 am High for a nonrefrigerated chest cooler. Solid and all there, maybe half his asking price. If you really want it though, spend what your comfortable.
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: mack65az on August 31, 2013, 10:12:43 am I want to restore it and make a couple bucks. What do you think these are worth PROPERLY restored?
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: MoonDawg on August 31, 2013, 10:57:43 am That cooler is more valuable the way it is than if it were restored. Agree $400 or less.
No refrigeration, no coin operation, raised letters to be painted everywhere, large size and overabundance of similar coolers...........it's a loser from an investment point of view. Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: mack65az on August 31, 2013, 11:21:04 am it does have the compressor
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: toolbox on August 31, 2013, 03:54:22 pm It is an oldie, 1934-1938, and good condition. Looks like it's missing the cap catcher.
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: ClassicCokeLover on August 31, 2013, 04:24:59 pm Westinghouse Master model was an ice cooler. Didn't think they had compressor's on them. I have a restored Westinghouse Junior that I did. Again, it is an ice cooler. Nice solid cooler that I had media blasted, primed, professionally painted with a slight clear coat, and professionally hand painted the embossed lettering.
What's your guess where I am in the cost of this machine? PS-it's for sale. Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: Creighton on August 31, 2013, 04:28:06 pm As stated $700 is way high. Slim chance to make $2 on a full restore. You will be upside down by quite a bit.
Always hard to tell from pics but looks like the original paint is in good condition. Doubt there is a mad rush to buy the machine so go take a look. A good cleaning and get it running could be some profit there. I'd wait for it to reach the $200 range. Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks! Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: Blind1968 on August 31, 2013, 05:01:28 pm The Westinghouse Master cooler came with or without the refrigeration coil and compressor deck like most the others. Not a good machine to try to flip. They can get pricey very quickly. With a price tag of 700.00 there is not much room there. Don't get me wrong I love my Westy master but if I was to ever sell it I would probably loose money. just my .02 cents
Title: Re: Westinghouse chest Post by: mack65az on August 31, 2013, 05:36:18 pm Thanks all. I went $400, he came down to $600 and I think was offended a little. His wife told him to get rid of it for $500. I just couldn't do it, though. He felt it was worth $700 minimum. It might be to somebody. Just not me. I'm passing on this one. Glad to have all your help.
