Title: My latest buy--a vintage slot machine
Post by: mznb1u on August 01, 2013, 05:51:33 pm
I have been looking for a nice one of these for a long time and I finally found one.  A Mills Bursting Cherry 10 cent slot machine.  The machine is relatively untouched except for some paint work on the face and a few springs on the inside.  The darn thing works like a champ--they just don't make stuff like they used to.  It even has the original Mills lock and key.

Having a blast playing with it and it works perfectly everytime.  I can not believe how heavy thise little things are.

A few more including the key.  Anyone know where I might track down an extra?

See there's some on eBay. Not sure if they match your machine. There are some blanks for sale on there as well. Locksmith might be able to cut.

I never found anyone who can cut those keys.  Hard to pick too.

What a great find Tim!  That would be the only way to buy one with the keys, and it in working condition!!

Awesome machine Tim.  I've been keeping my eye out for an old slot for a while myself.  That one really looks nice.  Did you  have anything specific you were looking for or did that machine just pop up at the right time?

Brian--other than looking for a Mills, I did not have this particular model in mind.  I wanted either a penny, nickel or dime machine as well.  Just tripped across this one on CL and was able to get it before someone else.  I have played it enough that my arm is getting sore.  It amazes me that something this old works as well as it does.

My kids and their friends love the slot I have and some of them have hit the Jackpot a few times. Mine is a nickel slot. I need to make a stand for it as it just sits on the subwoofer now.
Have you hit the JP yet?
I have a bunch of keys - I'll look through them and see if I have your number.

Can probability of payouts be adjusted?    Seems there has always been a gaming commision assigned to inspecting slots.

I don't believe that they can be adjusted.  Just the math behind hitting a jackpot with three reels and all the combinations should make you not want to put your money into it.  But it's that chance of winning that compels us to throw our paychecks in there.

I have seen where a machine would have a small nut and bolt in the cog to stop a jackpot.  The machine would let you get two of the three jackpots symbols, but as the last one gets ready to lock into place, the other geared piece would ride over the bolt and skip over the last needed jackpot position.  Darn the luck, it just skipped right past that winner.  :tounge:

I wanted a slot either a Watling or a Mills.  The Watlings are cooler looking.  The Mills are more affordable.  I settled for an Evans Winterbook, and Acme Roulette machine, and a Mills Vest pocket.  The Vest Pocket doesn't even look like a slot machine.  It is a stealth slot, made to resemble a vending machine.  One day, I would like a full sized machine.

I have several of those type of keys,  does it have to have that exact number to work.  I will ck mine to see if I have a match on the numbers...

Hi Tim, that a sweet slot, would love to have one some day, I'm still stuck with the (cheap) 1st gen electronic Ballys.

Here a link to down a manual for a similar style Mills Slot,  internally  most the older all mechanical Mills are all pretty much the same or close enough that you should find the manual usefully.

a new style Millers but still all mechanical

one more ...here's a link to a very old Mills catalog of machines called "Mills Automatic Money Maker"
