What's the current value of an 81 A.. It's all there but does not cool.

I'd have trouble paying 1800 for a Refridgerator that does not refridgerate... hopefully it's an easy fix like a new cord or thermostat,, but if it's truly shot your looking at 800-900 for a new unit.

I have trouble selling the a model, so I don't buy them much.... but I'm still getting b's and d's around me for 1500.  I know of an A about 2 hours from me. but it's got an A door and a D body.. so he and I are negotiating at this point..but no where near 1800

Could that be the rare C model?

C model should have large embossing and solid red. The one John looking at probably has a solid red door and a two tone cabinet with split vents.

Rod restored a C model awhile back and it turned out awesome. A model you rarely see.

The 81a  had "drink coca cola " closer to the door, later models centered the logo

I think if the refrigeration is shot, $1500 is a fair price on that machine.

I have been able to sell machines in the same condition for 2500.00 no problem.

Is a Vendo 81a that much more valuable than a Vendo 81B?

A is less valuable for sure. I think that we can all agree on.

yes I have a hard time selling an A ,, everyone wants the b or d model, mainly for the two toned look and stainless steel banding..

I have done up an 81a that belonged to a customer , he brought it to me, said he wanted it two toned and we did it for him and it looked fine.

I do like the all red 81a look too have done several of those for customers, but never had a request for one out of my inventory.. everyone who orders one from me ,wants the B or D ..

it's just taste as all.. as they are nearly all the same machines, just the look.

Personally I am a huge fan of the 81A, cleaned up or restored, they can look really nice.  With that being said, one that doesnt cool, I would have to assume that the coin mech doesnt work either, the light doesnt work, etc. so bare minimum, with a new cooling deck, restored coin mech, light bulb etc, probably adding an additional 1000, just to get it running  so I am more inclined to go with john aka signguy on his estimate.  Just my opinion, as I am well aware that people will pay some astronomical amounts to get what they want, but if it doesnt cool etc, then you are basically buying a refrigerator that doesnt work. albeit with quite a bit of nostalgia built in.
