Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: dr galaga on December 25, 2004, 01:31:36 pm Seems to be less discussion on here lately - Is soda machine collecting a warm weather hobby or are you guys to busy restoring to be on here?
I was looking through some of the pictures in the gallery and there sure are some nice machines there! I just updated my web site (sorry, only one pop machine there (I'm from Indiana, so I can call it pop!)). Here's the address if you would like to take a look: http://www.brentsarcade.com Merry Christmas! Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: loman4ec on December 25, 2004, 02:58:42 pm I have noticed the slow down as well. I am still here several times a day.
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on December 25, 2004, 11:41:19 pm Yea Myself Im finished untill spring cant do much till it warms up again Cant sand cause I cant prime ASAP, Cant do body work( well I can pound out dents) but you cant use any filler. So for now it becomes indoor project time and there are manyyyyyyyyyyy. BTW Im in The North so its about 15 here today :-P
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: loman4ec on December 25, 2004, 11:59:49 pm If you buy a nice torpedo heater and you can do it all year round. As soon as I get home I am starting on a vendo 110 roundtop that I bought. My first round top restoration. Yeah
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on December 26, 2004, 05:21:13 pm You Still cant paint because of the fact that tinyyyyyyy little paint particles are highly flammable ( BOOMMMMMMMM), So I could potentially do Bondo work but still cant do priming or painting because the "fog" that spraying produces is dangerous. Even If I say heated up the garage then painted then vented it of the " fog" and then reheated for it to cure. Its still a gamble. At 20 Degrees or less the garage would be cold in no time. Just remember your moving north, we arnt warm and the wind-chill, bahhhhhh that's even more annoying
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Pat Pixley on December 27, 2004, 07:22:07 pm Well there are people out there chatting, I think there alot of new people out there that have joined asked there one question and that the last you will here for them.then you have few that stay around for the run.
Also there are the people that have been here a while who stop by and take a look around to see what going on and may or may not what to chat to any one. Or there some that live north were it is very ccccoold and don't want to freeze there *#@* off to work on a project till spring so there out there buying parts, machines, old tins ,bottle openers or what ever, I think I can safely say this site wont go away any time soon. Pat Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on December 27, 2004, 08:23:39 pm I'm here about everyday. Always checking on the latest finds
or questions. I have a few questions myself I've asked or parts I'm in need of. What I've noticed is that round tops have slowed down and there are more square top finds and questions. Of course this is expected as they (round tops) are drying up. About the only round tops you see are exchanges from one collector to another. To find a round top today is rare. But that doesn't stop me from looking and running want ads. And I agree about the cold.. being from the Midwest it's a little too cold to hunt but bring on the spring. Meanwhile I'll just make a list of parts I needs and take a few things apart to restore. We're not going anywhere.... just too busy admiring our finds from this past summer! Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Jim on December 27, 2004, 09:16:53 pm I have to agree Eric on the fact that round-cornered machines are becoming few and far between and that the general migration to 60's square-cornered machines is inevitable...
As far as the site slowing down, I think my stats are about the same over the last year; however, as Pat stated, people are coming and going all the time... I'm actually in the process of removing members with no activity in the last year just for good database maintenance... As long as people are still collecting old soda machines, Soda-Machines.Com will be here! Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: globalcompressors on December 27, 2004, 09:22:51 pm We're still here as well. I do check in from time to time.
Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on December 27, 2004, 10:59:45 pm I've been interested in soda machines for many years but only this year found this site this year and poked around while I found my first machine, a Cavalier CC4-132G which does not cool. But it was local and got it for $35. I still need to find the time to remove the cooling system and send it to Global Compressors who gave me all the details and a good price.
This Fall I did lay down some hard earned cash to have Josh Loman restore two machines (Cav 64 and Vendo 56) as he recently posted. I felt they were good investments and would be real nice around the house - can't believe the wife doesn't want one in the "great room"! Josh does nice work and has good attention to detail at a bargain price. Yes, that's now my Frostie machine. I'll get some good pictures when I get it off the trailer tomorrow. I'm square top all the way. Round tops are just way out of my price range for a machine to enjoy and also use. Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Bob K on December 28, 2004, 08:04:25 am Good luck with that Frostie - it looks great.
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on December 28, 2004, 12:37:52 pm I'm still here.
I check in all the time, but since I don't yet own a Coke machine (though I do have a 60's syrup dispenser), I don't speak up all that often. I am very happy to hear that this site is never going to go away. Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Pat Pixley on December 28, 2004, 04:05:01 pm Well Markito we are glad you are here now were going to have to find a machine to go with your syrup dispenser. And Jim I'm glad to see your going to unload some of these one time hitters...
This is one of the better site that I belong to,I just had one go away not to long ago there was only 4 of us using it , shotglassForum and now its gone. This site has legs ,It going to keep running and running. Pat Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on December 29, 2004, 04:25:04 am Thanks Pat!
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on January 01, 2005, 08:05:55 pm Hello Everybody,
I have been popping out of this site for a few months now, the more I visit this site the more I like it. This is really a great site for us soda machine collectors and restoration people to share info., machines, parts and ideas. I am in the central california area and have approx. 50-60 round top machines. I collect pre 1960 soda pop, gas station (petrolaina) and coin op. I buy, sell, trade and perform restorations (year round) in my restoration shop. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a replacement magazine for "Club Soda"? Thanks and keep up the good work on this site!!! Terry Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Bob K on January 02, 2005, 05:59:35 pm 50-60 round toppers - not too shabby, Terry!!
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on January 02, 2005, 08:24:37 pm I don't know of any other soda club magazine.
After Club Soda.....uh...stopped.... I called a few of the Club Soda members and one had a copy of the member list but nothing that I know of was re-started or picked up. I found this site and I'm here to stay. I do miss the stories of finds. My story made issue 30.... I was shopping at a Antique store for depression glass for my wife and I picked up a Vendo 81 and Cavlier 72 for $75 bucks each! Whew! Those were the days! There was a topic not to long ago here that someone asked something like.... What can you get for a hundred dollars... and several responses were posted. Would love to see/hear more of those stories. Maybe this new year... Unbelievable what is still out there. Stick with this site it's great! Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on January 02, 2005, 10:29:31 pm Hello Eric,
I believe I remember your story in club soda. If I remember correctly a guy came in with a trailer with the machines you bought and I'm thinking a cooler that he wanted to keep for himself, he was also a few feet away from jeff Walters book. Am I right? Terry Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on January 03, 2005, 11:40:22 am Wow.... good memory...you're right.... he kept a Pepsi 55 ideal slider & a
Coke Westinghouse master...he thought they older and might be worth more. That was a great magazine! Loved it! I had redesigned the Clib Soda logo for it and he said he was going to use it... But it never made it. What a shame it ended like it did. Remember all the for sale ads..... Machines have doubled ... even tripled in some cases. I would love to see this on this site.... Maybe Jim can figure somesthing out to where we have a space for finds of the month and members post images of what they have found and the deal they got. What do you think? Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on January 03, 2005, 11:42:20 am Of course I would have spelt it CLUB SODA... not Clib Soda....
sorry about that..... Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Pat Pixley on January 03, 2005, 12:49:00 pm well that was mine, What will a hundred dollers get you
June 4 2004 post and it did turn out alot of responses. And I think you right we should have the find of the month or something like that, and have it open to soda machine's, dispensers, picnic coolers and maybe even soda advertising signs. just a thought Pat Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on January 03, 2005, 12:59:28 pm That would be a great idea. I think that would make the search for machines a little more interesting. Buying a machine from e-bay just isn't as fun as finding a machine on a weekend road trip. I know everyone of us has a interesting story on a find or two. I recently picked up a early V39 (mint) and a seeburg 100J juke box in great condition about a mile from my house, they were advertised in a small local antique store. I paid $800.00 for the pair. I also picked up a V81 for $400.00 and a cavalier 72 for $175.00 recently, so the good deals are still avail. Terry
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: MoonDawg on January 03, 2005, 01:10:04 pm Great idea Eric. We have a for-sale section in this site and I check it daily, but the stories of great finds were interesting reading.
Terry, you start this new post. I'll bet you have 50 stories to tell (Thought U were comming down for a visit?) Glen Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on January 03, 2005, 01:21:43 pm Hello Glen,
Nice to hear from you, I have been trying to visit you for quite a while now. I have been swamped with work. I will travel your way on my next coast trip. Soon I hope, could use a short get away. Great idea on the new finds, I will attempt to start a new post. Terry Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Jim on January 03, 2005, 01:22:59 pm I'm listening...
I apologize for being so far behind on things, I just never seem to find the time anymore... At any rate, I have begun to implement a Photo Gallery here! It still needs a little work but for the most part, it functions. Check it out and let me know what needs to be modified or included... As far as a "Machine of the Month" or "Find of the Month", I had thought of this last year but wasn't sure I would have enough information to dedicate to twelve machines a year... I'm talking about in depth info similar to the Club Soda Publications... My goal was to send the Newsletter with this information linking back to the current section... I still have to migrate all the data for the Dispensers Section so it can be displayed... I might have to seek out some of you for your web development capabilities and assist in completing some of these tasks... Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on January 03, 2005, 01:52:33 pm I'm for “find of the month”... I like the idea of
coolers, dispensers, machines, soda related items only... Wow Terry..... You're making a killing... Sounds like some great finds! Congrats!!!! I also collect old neckties from the 1940s & 50s and the site K.N.O.T. (stands for Kollecting Nasty Old Ties) They have a section for finds of the month. It's great to see what still out there and where! Jim I don't know the exact site name anymore....do a search for old neckties and see if how it's set up... if it could be done here. And hey.... don't apologize! This is a great site...and a great site is always changing and growing for the better! I didn't know if a photo gallery would be for something like this... Just thought it would be fun to post some images of members finds... and the images could fall out after a couple months so you don't have to keep things updated and take too much memory/space... Or does it even work like that? As you can see I don't build sites. But I do have a cool one... And we're still working on it check it out www.soda-signs.com Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on January 03, 2005, 02:01:28 pm Hello Eric,
I checked out your site, I have bought a few signs from you in the past. Nice quality!! Plan to buy more. Terry Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on January 03, 2005, 02:39:01 pm Thanks Terry...
Plan on doing a several new designs this year. I do all the artwork myself... love making them. Got some great stuff coming and would love to hear what people are looking for in signs as far as brands in soda and gas/auto type. So watch the site to change this next year. And anyone interested we made 2500 7up flanges. Which was probably 500 to many as we have about 500 left so call my brother who stands over the phone we can work deals on those! single or 5 per box. Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Pat Pixley on January 03, 2005, 03:42:16 pm Jim, I was thinking something on these lines of something that you found at a garage sale or even by a old
barn and even in the want ads in the home town papers . With a photo of it if able. This is just a thought. Pat Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: on August 03, 2005, 12:12:14 am
I took a stroll back in time to my earliest posts and I just had to point this out... I posted the above quote just less than 8 months ago on last December 28th and now I have bought and thoroughly enjoyed 9 soda machines since then!!! But what cracked me up the most was where I said, "I don't speak up all that often..." I mean ever since I got my first machine a few weeks after that, you guys haven't been able to shut me up! Heck, I now have more posts than anyone else in this forum... including the mods! You all are so great, I just couldn't help myself. I'm surprised I had time to create a baby! Boy have I changed since that December quote. Thanks everyone for making this the most fun (and friendliest) forum to be a part of. Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Creighton on August 03, 2005, 01:45:54 am Great reminder! It is just a great forum and thanks so much Jim!!
Creighton Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Eric on August 03, 2005, 01:28:25 pm And don't forget the Summer Finds part....... does everyone/anyone want to do that?
Post their finds of the summer... If so when should we post? I love this site... best “club” I've ever been apart of and I haven't met a one of you!Ha Maybe I'll get to meet a few of you this November in Chicago! Thanks for all the stories and advice...... Eric Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Pat Pixley on August 03, 2005, 02:55:33 pm And dont' forget projects that you are working on. And for the summer find & project's, how about September 25- 30 .
This is one of the best site out there, and you guy's are the best. Pat Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Ltransam on August 03, 2005, 09:27:30 pm Just to ECHO the same GREAT people on this site & And big Thanks to Jim for his hard work .
Leonard P.s We need Markito To keep us in line so we do cluter up the top's of our machines !! Machine Cluter Police Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: MoonDawg on August 04, 2005, 10:32:21 am This may be the place to ask Jim this question:
How and when did this great site start? Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: dr galaga on August 04, 2005, 11:11:29 am I would say Oct. 20, 2001.
Do I win a Bozo Button Jim? (I hope that this is not just a Midwestern saying.) Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: Jim on August 04, 2005, 11:17:30 am First, I want to Thank Everyone for the praise!
Secondly, belive it or not, if you visit the Event Calendar, you'll see that August is the offical month SMC was launched back in 1998. It's hard to believe it's been 7 years! As a matter of fact, I originally had a site back in '96 which is still available for anyone to visit, Vintage Restorations... This site still gets visitors from time to time... Again, Thanks for the kind words and if there's anything we can do to make things better, I'm open for discussion... Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on August 04, 2005, 12:53:01 pm Jim,

There were a number of Bozo shows across the nation but the one in Chicago was the most famous - Bozo Circus. I believe that the Chicago one was broadcast nationwide and it was during lunch time (at least when I was a kid). Sometimes you were lucky and could win a Bozo Button. They did skits, had games, had a big barrel they would pull kids names out of so they could win at home (the wait to be in the studio audience was around 5 years and I was sick when I was supposed to go). The most popular game was the Grand......Prize......Game! Hello....am I just talking to myself? Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: glassbottlesrule on August 05, 2005, 04:54:59 pm I think it's more rustbelt then midwestern. Just about every market around here syndicated that show.
Title: Site slowing down and web site Post by: sodaworks on August 05, 2005, 07:40:41 pm I remember rushing home from school to watch bozo's big top.
