Title: Stolen Coke Machine
Post by: Funtronics on June 17, 2013, 07:46:31 am
I need some help. I store my soda machines that need restored in a old storage unit on our property that is 30 miles from my house. It is an old building that we don't use anymore, but still good enough to store my machines in and lock up. Well over the weekend someone broke in and stole several machines from me. One of them was a Coke VMC 27 on an enclosed stand and the other was a blank Ideal slider that was white and was complete. I would like to ask everyone on this site that if you see any of these machines listed somewhere or someone tries and sell you these machines please let me know. I had other machines in the building, but they knew what they were taking. I am located in central Illinois. Any help on this would be great.  :hopefull:
Thanks
Rod

Have you got any pictures of the machines so that when one pops of those models pops up for sale, we can look at the marks on the machine if they are yours.

         Bummer! :darn:

Whoever broke in was not a collector risking jail so they will be for sale, and probably outside your area so SMC is a good place to post.

Also, they chose to steal 2 machines that are probably worth more in parts than complete.

So if someone is selling a slider rack AND a 27/33 drum, it should also raise some suspicion.

We'll be on the lookout Rod.

Hopefully they are recovered!  All it take is a lurking guest/ thief  to read this though. Should this be moved to an area that requires at least 100 posts? Or the Soda Jerks section?

Sorry Rod!

Sorry Rod!
It's probally someone local and won't be on this sight or know about this sight. They will more than likely sale it on Craigslist, auction, or other sights. They left good tire tracks and the sheriff is taking finger prints.

Sorry to hear that Rod.
I hope they are caught.

We have a Great Group of people on this site, and from what I have seen so far, The people on this site ever seem to "Miss" a machine for sale or parts on Craiglist or Ebay.
We find them all.

Unfortunately, Sometimes with break ins, it is people you know, or have done business with..... Try to think back if you ever had people in your storage building showing them a machine for sale, that seemed shady...
I am sure you are already thinking hard.... Hope they turn up.

Shane.

I'm sorry to learn of this low life act ! ! !
I'll keep an eye as well; however, as Glen mentioned, if the machines get parted out, it will be more challenging to recover them...
Please post any photos you may have of the machines to aid us.

How about setting up a CL alert and use key words that a theif might use to sell the stuff....? I know there are some app that can do this.

If the internet avenues of sale are covered, you may want to go "old school" and check out antique/pawn shops in the area and maybe even other collectors in the area.

The building sounds like it was somewhat remote so I would also think its someone you may know vs a smash and grab.

Best of luck to you in the recovery.

Sorry to hear that Rod. That's a damn shame that people have to do that. I agree with some others here, had to be someone who knew what you had in that shed. Does not sound like a random theft. Hope they catch em!

Doesn't seem like a very smart thief.  Who wants to steal items that call attention to themselves.  Put them online or pull up to a pawn shop and most people will notice them and want to know the story behind them.  Would be better off going after items that could neot be easily identified.  But I guess if they had any brains they would be doing something other than breaking into storage lockers.  I'm in central MO, which might be a reasonable distance for them to travel to unload them and maybe feel safe about it.  Will keep my eyes open around here.

Sorry to hear Rod! Not a good Fathers Day present!
Shane is right though. I was burglarized a few decades ago and that is exactly what the police told me. Someone doesn't break and enter unless they know there is something worth the risk inside. I'd think back as to who you might have taken to the building.
Did the police get any fingerprints? All they might need is a name to match now.
Good Luck!

Sorry to hear that. With a little luck the prints might turn up something. I would say they are looking to make a quick buck. Will keep a lookout on CL around the TN area.

We'll keep an eye out here in Michigan for sure!, also as suggested do a search of all craigs list & call any local antique shops near your local & around the storage area & let them know to be on the lookout, antique dealers are also a pretty close knit set of businessmen & deal with each other on a regular basis buying & selling & trading.

I hate thieves!!!!   :veryangry:

There are always guys on Craigslist running "Wanted to Buy" ads.  I would reach out to the  guys posting these types of ads & inform that these machines were stolen.  I would guess that the thieves would try to unload these quickly, so they might try to sell them this way rather than advertise them for sale themselves.

If you offer them some type of a reward for information leading to an arrest, you will definitely get their attention.

I hope you are able to catch these scumbags!

Sorry to hear, Bad News! You also need to post on oldgas.com as there are a lot of gas and oil collectors in IL. Pictures of the two machines would be a big help as well.

Sorry to hear about this Rod, It really sucks as I found out this weekend with my own storage issue. I'll keep an eye out in NE Ohio and western PA.
I hate thieves, they have to be one of the lowest life forms there is.  :darn:

Sorry about your loss.  That's so frustrating.  It almost sounds like it could be someone you know (or knows you) since they seemed to know 1). where your storage unit was located and 2). an idea of what they were taking.  Did the tire tracks indicate they had a trailer?  Was the slider a 35 or 55?  I don't think the machines or parts will make it to Texas, but I'll keep an eye out on my Craigslist locations.

I agree. Theifs and burglars are not worth called human beings :censored:

I hope the machines will return and/or the theifs realize that the best to do is to leave them back.

I looked and could not find where I took pictures of these machines. In the future I am going to take a picture of every machine right after I buy it. I appreciate everyone keeping an eye out for these two machines.

I remember hearing about a theft several years ago.

A group of buyers from overseas had a semi trailer parked at the Chicagoland show, and on the last night someone hooked up to the entire trailer and it disappeared.

Does anyone here remember this, and more importantly........were any machines ever recovered or even the empty trailer?

Wow... sorry to hear this... Rod there are 3 large antique malls that run along 55 in IL.. Lisa's I, II & III they're called I would call them and get the word out as well...as they are right along the highway...  These are places the wife and I always hit when traveling to Chicago.... I find a lot of soda stuff at these... might be worth putting in a call to them.
Will be on the look out for you as well... Hope you find these machines.

Thiefs are not that smart, if they were they wouldn't have to steal, they would have a real job. With that being said after they commit the crime they do stupid things like using CL or even try to sell it back to you, who knows. All it takes is a good lead and hopefully your local PD can track them down.

Don't forget the scrappers. Everyone assumes they knew wht they were taken. Sounds like to me they toolk small machines because they were easier to  carry out

It wouldn't by chance be the machine I have attached a picture of would it?  I just came across this one in St. Louis the other day in a yard sale ad.  I asked about a stand and he said he didn't have it.  The seller is asking $950 for it.
